Dolby Vision w/FEL + 3D for PC (AMD/Intel/nVidia)

  • Thanks, picked this 10th gen i7 gem up with get this 64GB memory, wireless kb, ( red dragon) monitor , crappy aoc 15.6 inch or something, and an 500GB inland marine ( I think that Microcenter branded) NVME 2280 NVME drive for ....wait for the number. 95.00 Came with Mint preinstalled. Came out of a dental office , Doesn't have the innards for win 11 i guess natively. So would have to use trix to get it on there. No good for remote support. But hey for $100 dollars no complaints here. We laughed that the ram was probably worth twice that alone, He said he just needed to clear some stuff out. I saved that seller on marketplace. He let me connect it an inverter in the parking lot of a bojangles to test, so i brought my ego invertor and a battery along for the pickup. I think 11th gen was when the GPU started getting better in the nucs, but again $100.

  • Hello, I am a bit of a complete novice when talking/dealing with video standards. I have a chromebook with coreboot that has an HDMI 1.4 port, my understanding is that to get 4k60 I need to set chroma to 4:2:0 to be within the bandwidth. Is this possible to get working within either DV build of LE? I am not sure I should care to get 60Hz, as I will only be watching movies that are either 24p or 29.97, but my understanding is some TVs might care. The chromebook is a HP Fortis 14 G11, N200, 16GB RAM.

  • Testing with the Geekom Air 12 Mini PC (Intel N150) and version R1.0.0 Beta5 by CroqueMr

In general, everything is working very well so far.

I have encountered one issue when playing 4K videos with Dolby Vision (DV).
If I try to enlarge the image—for instance, to minimize the black bars at the top and bottom of the video—it doesn't work. Adjusting the "zoom amount" has no effect whatsoever. Is it possible to fix this?
For 4K videos without Dolby Vision, the "zoom amount" feature works perfectly; the issue only occurs when the video contains Dolby Vision.

    Note:
This works without any problems in CoreELEC-22, where the "zoom amount" function always works as expected.

CroqueMr , thanks for your great work!

I will check but I think it will be very complicated to have this feature, this requires an upscale and it destroys performance when playing DV on the current engine.

  • Just curious, will these changes also improve subtitle positioning, especially when switching between different aspect ratios?

As long as the subs are the kind that can be positioned (and not baked in) it should be possible to keep them above the video instead of them being half in/out of the letterbox.

  • Can you send me the log please? And do you use any addon?

It's weird you don't seem to have the image freeze when a subtitle and GUI is present on the screen at the same time like I do. I am on AMD 8845S and AMD 780M.

Welcome to my world, AMD and Intel are very different, an optimizarion for intel can be a regression for AMD. And in each brand you have a lot of different GPU with their own issue.

The ability to zoom in on any video has been a feature in Kodi for quite some time; that’s nothing new.
What is new—at least for me—is that this zoom function no longer works with videos that use Dolby Vision. For all other videos (those without Dolby Vision), zooming continues to work without any issues. ;)

And as I mentioned before, zooming in on Dolby Vision videos is possible in CE-22, which is why I’m hopeful that it might also be possible here in LE.

    BTW:
And let’s not forget, amidst all the discussion about subtitle or GUI issues when zooming:
"You don’t *have* to zoom—but if you’d like to, the option is there." :)

  • This is feature I'm also using extensively and it's a big factor to change from am6b+ to x64 platform..

Had many fight about it on other forums/boards hearing I'm destroying picture quality, not 1:1 pixel representation on my screen but gosh! If I paid for 83" TV I wanna watch 83!😁🤪

  • CroqueMr did you figure out why the display outputs to my laptop screen rather than tv ? Were the logs I gave helpful? Do u need more logs? Any update ?

    Thanks.

I am rebuilding and optimizing completely the engine, it will be finished tomorrow then I will start to check your log and fix other small issues.

Sorry, here it is. But, here's the interesting thing... the issue disappears when logging is enabled. No faint media icons visible at the bottom (as in the video I shared before), and no loss of forced sub after skipping around.

Oh, the only add-on I'm using is for this custom skin.

Thank you, very strange I will try to reproduce this glitch.
