[9.0.0] LibreELEC builds for MX2/G18

  • Hi KOPRajs. Any news on a new release yet? Appreciate all you do for keeping these great little boxes alive and current!

    Thanks,

    Hi,

there is a bug causing sound cracking on Amlogic Meson6 in the current LE 9.0 master branch which makes it unusable for now. However this bug also affects officially supported WeTek Play so I'm simply waiting until it gets fixed in upstream. Once there is a working LE 9.0 build for WeTek Play I'll try to make it work on MX2 again.

Thanks so much!!! That would be awesome!!! Wish I knew how to do this stuff so I wouldn't have to bother anyone but I am thankful that since I do not know how there are folks out there like you that do!!!!

  • Hi,

I managed to flash LibreELEC-Amlogic_MX2.arm-8.0.2 to android tv box

It was running on Android 4.2.2

The brand is Prestigio PAB2411 is based on AMLogic 2x ARM Cortex-A9.

I flashed via SD card method using toothpick method.

Everything seems ok and system boot up.

However I don't have wifi and bluetooth device detected.

Maybe there are some missing wifi driver modules.

  • Hello everyone and thank you KOPRajs for thie build. I followed instructions and was able to flash the firmware as a new installation coming from my OEM android 4.2.2 os on my G18ref (MX2 Clone?) device using your Storage.img to an SD card. I've left the SD card in there since I know data is written and read from there instead of NAND.

Everything seemed fine at first but during the welcome screen, it didn't detect any WiFi networks. I ignored this and continued set up and I enabled SSH and Samba then I finally I got to access the Kodi home screen. I plugged in my external hard drive and was able to play Movies just fine using my wireless Keyboard/Touchpad that my Streamview Box came with. The remote controller my box came with doesn't seem to work with LibreElec. Only the Power Button does. After my movie was over I shut off the device using remote controller.

A few minutes later I turned on the box and the first time it hung on the LibreElec splash screen. I unplugged my external hard drive and rebooted and this time it hung on Kodi 17.3 splash screen. I rebooted using remote controller again and it finally got back to Kodi home screen. I had changed the home screen to only show Favorites screen but it recerted back to initial configuration and time set to 12:00AM.

As I was navigating the Kodi screen down back to favorites, Kodi froze. I know it froze because my computer's SUB keyboard didn't work either and the time was still at 12:00AM after 12 minutes. Haven't been able to progress from here. I've re-flashed your version of LibreElec 8.0.2 3 times already and no progress.

    To summarize:

    1. I did a clean install of your 8.0.2 file

    2. WiFi doesn't work at all, can't even find networks on setup.

    3. Remote controller only works for power button now.

    4. LibreElec or Kodi splash screen hangs when rebooting if USB Hard drive is plugged in.

    5. Now, splash screen hangs sometimes on reboot with nothing else plugged in other than SD card

    6. Device freezes seconds after Kodi starts up.

What can I do to troubleshoot my issues? I can't find OEM firmware to revert back to original state. I'd way rather fix this version if possible.

  • Are you also having the same issues as me other than Wi-Fi and Bluetooth? have does yours work after rebooting?

  • After 2 days of trial error, only OpenElec v4.2.1 works on my system. I've tried newer versions of OpenElec and all these LibreElec but none work. I've tried updating from this version by SSH following all instructions but game an error saying that my system will debug in 120 seconds. Then I tried to do a clean install but it either hangs on Matricom logo now or it goes to that 120 seconds debug screen and hangs there. I don't don't know what else to do. It least I can have old ass XBMC Gotham running for video playback and WiFi for SSH access in case someone knows something I can attempt to get a newer Kodi version running

  • Are you also having the same issues as me other than Wi-Fi and Bluetooth? have does yours work after rebooting?

Yeah I don't have both even after rebooting.

I tried OpenElec 4.2.1 from codesnake and that's the most stable it could get.

Both latest OpenElec and KOPRajs MX2 version give me random reboot.

  • Good news everyone!

It seems that the great codesnake found the cause of the sound distortion problem which was making LE 9.0 alpha1 unusable on MX2:

    projects/WeTek_Play: remove asound.conf that causes distorted sound d… · LibreELEC/LibreELEC.tv@ef1d2c0 · GitHub

I've just tested it and it does seem to solve the problem so you can expect first 9.0 alpha1 build for MX2 as soon as it is released for other platforms.

    hi,

i have compliled libreelec 9 trunk version for wetek play several times. But i still have problems with the sound. It sounds "blechern", not always but changing from normal to strange sound from now and then.

The normal feedback from Skin sounds are normal.

What i did was only a upgrade via the tar file, but i didn´t do a factory reset and i haven´t touched the sound settings.

I don´t know if i am the only one with this Problem so i just want to let u know :)

    # # # # Update 04.05.2018

It seems to be working with the latest Trunk version of Libreelec. I could also install Netflix and make it run.

What i have as an information:

    - When you install script.module.inputstreamhelper the first time you start netflix the latest libwidevinecdm.so will be installed. But for this you need a lot of space you may not have on Wetek Play.

i have mounted temporary the .kodi directory to a usb stick to get the latest libwidevinecdm and copy it than back to the original .kodi/cdm directory.

    - When you want to install TVHeadend HTSP client you get following error message:

The dependency on kodi.binary.instance.pvr version 5.8.0 could not be satisfied

That means TVheadend is currently not useable

Edited 2 times, last by twerty: now it seems to be working (May 4, 2018 at 11:35 AM).

  • Hi KOPRajs

Many thanks for all your work on this, just wondered if there were any updates? Really looking forward to the next build :)

    Thanks!

  • I'm wondering if it's possible to install this LE build onto an SD card and dual boot. When I tried the 8.0.2 build, Kodi (when my box manages to boot up) freezes in seconds, before I even have the chance to enable SSH. EMBer seemed to have no such stability issues, but seemed to be no longer active.

  • Hi

Whats the current official release, where can we see the version? On the downloads page it has 8.2.5? Just wondering what current version is and how to see next version and when it is released

    Thanks

  • I am starting to suspect that the stability issues I am experiencing has to do with scaling_freq_max being set too high. KOPRajs, would you be able to provide a build without dtb.img?

  • Is there any way how to boot this build completely off SD card (preferred) or USB flash? Got older G18 box with completely dead NAND. Even attempt to format data partition during normal recovery is enough to freeze kernel. I managed to install EmbER in the past (probably because it clears NAND before installing) but now it doesn't work anymore. And this build will be much better and newer anyway.

I will try making SD card with two partitions: 1. fat32 with kernel and system and 2. ext4 with valid DATA label.

But I think I have already tried this before and while I could load the kernel, it failed to find and use system partition.

    Any ideas?

  • Arrrgh, Newbie to Linux and Android stuff. Did the install first time and it got to the Libreelec logo the popped up a couple of messages, which I can remeber what they were (something about ssh). I tried to go back to MX2 oem and got through it but now the MX2 will do nothing. It will not even go into any boot up and remains black screen (no signal to TV) I have tried doing the new install option of Libreelec but nothing. HELP!
