[9.0.0] LibreELEC builds for MX2/G18

  • For those having trouble with the NAND b0rk/120 seconds message, although it's a bit technical I've managed to fix this issue on my box, maybe temporarily but it's working again.

Amlogic AML8726-MX HD18 v2.22 (G18ref) STB black screen no boot fix

KOPRajs, really appreciate the backporting of LibreElec. Only issue I've had is I assume my old JVC flatscreen TV doesn't like the video mode the Matricom splash uses, the display won't fire up, but I've manage to work out an order to boot the box with cables unattached until in Kodi.

  • I installed to SDCARD and am running 20190424 without issue.

Are you running 20190424 from internal NAND? If so, how did you manage to make this version work in NAND?

I also updated from 20190226 to 20190424 and it broke my box. So I had to reinstall 8.0.2, updated to 20190226 and it's working from NAND at the moment.

  • Boxes are just old so i don't really bother playing with them anymore, but i did update one to Kodi 18.4 on the weekend for a friend and then remembered what i had done to make them still usable...

If the box is a Maticom box then its their bootloader that is more then likely causing the issue, tho some did have crappy nands that were known to go bad but in most cases i have come across it was Matricom's crappy bootloader that would easily corrupt when messing with it and the video setup in it was for older resolutions which some screens don't pickup till the main firmware comes up (Android)...

I forgot that i had replaced their bootloader with my own along time ago which is why i was able to keep the system updated to begin with...

  • I have a DigiXstream DX3 - AML8726-MX, for which I am trying to install the recent libreelec builds here but am having problems. When I try the recovery method (fresh install) the installation stalls out at the Kodi screen. Like one of the previous posters (#289) I can successfully load that ancient version of OpenELEC, but when I try to update with the tar file, it begins to update and then runs into an error and kills the box. I have been able to recover by re-installing the ancient version of OpenELEC.

I have tried both with the storage SD/USB method and also changing the setting for internal Nand storage to have LIBREELEC_DISK.

On my storage USB, I found two log files of my attempts to install 8.0.2. The longer of the two is pasted below. There seems to be a problem with loading skin settings towards the end. Can anyone help me figure out what is going wrong?

    Many thanks!

  • I haven never been able to get audio passthrough option available with kodi18.

It was always there on every previous build used on my mx2.

This week I went back to 17, there it was! Upgraded to 18... gone.

Plenty of threads on google about this, tried all solutions but none work. Have tried both hdmi and optical from box, but mx2 running running libreelec with kodi18 will not show audio passthrough option.

    Anu suggestions?

  • I've managed to get it working (sort of) mx version 1, installed it on sdcard. But having some problem with 8.0, wifi related or something. Lots of waiting when adding apps and most time it doesnt work, it doesn't get installed. The Network options in the libreelec options are emty so i cant even change wifi if i wanted to (and need to because i setup on guest wifi which is separated from my nas). With the first boot i could setup wifi, now not anymore. It was a faulty sdcard, now with usb drive works good.

I would prefer it on NAND, but now I read if u want on NAND you must do it before upgrading, so now to late or do i misunderstood the line? Can it still be done with every new installation? (Maybe I just dont understand and it is already on NAND? Didn't see activity on usb stick light while booting, but without usb stick it wont boot.)

I also don't understand if i want to try higher version i have to update or can i just flash/install the rom i want through the toothpick option?

The instructions link is not working so its kinda hard for new people to step in. ( Support Hub | G-Box Support | G-Box Help | Matricom )

  • Hi @KOPRajs, I was wondering if you could look into an issue. I have a Matricom MX2 and with the 20190424 build, the fast forward (right arrow key) always causes the box to freeze. Has anyone also encountered this issue? I switched back to 8.0.2 and everything runs fine. Could you please take a look? Thanks.

Try disabling the hardware acceleration in settings > player. Some streams seem to crash the hardware decoding, although disabling this can make HD streams struggle.

  • Good news for anyone (like me) having issues getting their remote working with this libreelec build, I've got mine working. This has been really confusing because of the recent adoption of LIRC in libreelec, but it isn't used in this build.

Based on information from this page; http://www.microdev.it/wp/en/2016/12/…n-amlogic-socs/

    My remote.conf file which is based on the /etc/amremote/libreelec.conf present in this libreelec;

    This file belongs as /storage/.config/remote.conf

    after it's been copied there in SSH type;

    remotecfg /storage/.config/remote.conf

It's early days and I've not completely mapped the keys for my generic Android/NEC remote, any keys not recognised by the system should be logged in the system log (dmesg -c)

You only need the remote.conf override and not rc_maps.cfg, lircd.conf or whatever to get this working. Did a lot of digging to find this info., but I thought I'd share it.

  • @KOPRajs, I'd really like to have a go at building whatever libreelec last supported meson6.

I get the copy your source over the libreelec mainline, but I can't get it to build.

I'm using ubuntu, any chance you could list what dependencies are needed, I've got build-essentials so far, but it's not clear what else is needed, the errors don't hint at what else needs to be installed. And I suspect the info on the official wiki doesn't account for the amlogic hardware.

    Do I need gcc-arm-none-eabi?

  • I've had this box running well for a few years now with 9.0.1 & kodi 18.1, but I did a reset/clean this week, it works fine with 7.95.3 & kodi 17, as soon as i update to 9/k18, I lose all ability to instal, cannot even download a new skin, no SMB , just no connections.

Have a new box and want to keep this for another spare tv.

    Gotta b something simple.

    Any advise?

  • I currently have 9.0.1 & kodi 18.1 running since this was the combination that worked well. I manged to get Samba working finally but this is to do with the SMB setting I played around with.
I attempted the instruction on the other thread, as this sounds like my issue - zip files work - but not from repositories and no skins installing

EDIT: I have given up and will just put kodi17 on this box and use for samba, no idea why 18 wont work suddenly after years.
oh well, pity as box has been good and still works.

I've had issues like this when the permissions have been changed on /storage, I'd do the 7.95.3 factory AV "toothpick" install then, do the tune2fs with SSH (this will also break /storage if not done) and upgrade to 9.0.2 (just copy the tar archive into /storage/.upgrade and reboot)

Thanks, yes I have tried multiple times, it just will not work with kodi 18 anymore :(

EDIT: Finally fixed, it was the the same issue as Cannot Install/Update Addons afterall
