Passthough audio was never the issue, it is only an issue with HD-audio (HBR) formats. There is no indication that this patch solves this but it is worth a test.

Yes for example Dolby TrueHD / Atmos and DTS-HD / DTS:X passthrough are not currently working and Intel has not released any correction for this yet.

Just to comment: Testing shows issues with the current iteration of patches so this probably isn't resolved until an 8.2.x maintenance update. We aren't going to rush the fix, it needs to be complete and stable before we include it.

IMHO I agree that a stable version needs reliable patches to be called stable. But personally I don't see why those two should not be implemented:
linux: add patch to enable hbr audio on recent intel platforms · escalade/LibreELEC.tv@2353618 · GitHub
linux: add patch to set connector type when updating ELD (fixes skyla… · escalade/LibreELEC.tv@85d827a · GitHub
I'm running a Apollo Lake based itx board (J3455-ITX) and those patches were a huge improvement. I don't own a 4k tv but I've lost the correct input settings after a while all the time. The audio setting switches from DP to HDMI and I've got no sound at all.
Now it works flawlessly and I don't have to reboot the machine all the time. Also I don't have to boot the system after changing the hdmi input at the TV to get an image, even with a custom edid this never worked reliable before.
So personally I would be pleased if you could add those patches, maybe there were still some quirks and adjustable framerate prevents HD audio but at least the basic settings work. -

That's because your Intel hardware works. Other Intel hardware has issues that were not previously present and that's not acceptable in a beta or final release build. This needs to be tested properly, and when it's ready we'll work it into an appropriate release.

is there any unofficial build(s) that has these patches applied? I made a mistake to purchase the NUC6CAYH and now it's unusable

No, the patches are not in official builds because in their current form they cause more problems than they solve with the 4.11.12 kernel used in the latest official build. It's something that will be looked at again in 8.2.1 but the patches will not be in 8.2.0.

"Unusable" is a little bit of an exaggeration.

Unusable? I have the same NUC and its great!

uhm, I'm not saying LibreELEC or Kodi is unusable without these patches, I bought this to replace my old D34010 but in this form it's not replacing anything, it's the NUC that is unusable, not the software.

The patches are included in my build.

This is great news for nuc owners

I can report it works like it should, simply perfect.
Tested all, including ac3, dts, dts hd / ma, opus 7.1, 2.0... latest firmware from few days ago, I have the i5 kaby nuc.
But any how, im not able to install any addon like tvheadend in 8.2. Maybe a temporary repo issue?
Ideas?

Please post your Kodi debug log after you have tried (and failed) to install one of these addons.

I will, after the current ongoing shitty movie
edit. my fault buddys. The rj45 cable went slightly out my switch replacing the zbox with the nuc damn. it had simply no web any more.
Better than ever with that new nuc i5 + optane. Love it already. Im converting all my stuff to hevc 10 bit and opus.
