How to force 5ghz frequency?

  • I use RPi4 for my LibreElec.

I just stood up a new WIFI network. In the past I could separate 2.4 and 5ghz into their own SSD, but I don't see that as an option in this system. All of the pi's automatically joined the 2.4ghz band. Is there a way to force them onto the 5?

    Thank you

    Daryl

  • As soon as I posted this, I figured out how to split the 2.4 from the 5. I'm good now. I had forgotten that there was a manual setting that allowed me to designate the frequency.

    Thanks

  • It's not possible to force connection to a specific band, the connection manager will prefer whatever provides the strongest signal. You might find that setting wireless regulatory domain helps the client device see all frequencies available on the router.

  • Nope. The hotspot is intentionally simple and doesn't support much more than ON/OFF. If you need router features, you need to get a router :)

    Ah what a bummer!

I have just replaced my router and the new one does not have WiFi, i figured i could be using this tethering (with decent speeds) while am awaiting the new WiFi puck. :D
