setup what? -
Try a reboot
It worked for me (rpi 3) -
Your log doesn't have debug enabled. Can you enable debug and the "video" component specific debug and capture another log?
Does the problem only affect live TV, or does it affect playing local/network files?

same here also on a rpi 3, I just assumed it was something to do with Emby which I recently switched to to manage my library, my videos are now connected to my laptop and i stream to the pi using direct pathes but I just assumed something was wrong with emby and so ignored it, sorry no logs. -
hi yall. this seems to have started with LE~005 (rpi2)
here's a debug log IYGB

I have the same bug, I will enable logging/debug as mentioned above and grab some logs.
Can browse within Kodi, but selecting something to play results in black screen with audio.

Just had the same error again. Timestamp: Between 8:04am and 8:05am 17/04/16
When I try to play any video file, only get audio and black screen.
Reboot resolves issue.
Attached log files.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can provide.

Yeah, I spent way too long trying to get the file uploaded because I guess the forum upload doesn't work (only a 3 mb file not sure why it isn't uploading).
I might try again the next time the problem comes up but I can't be bothered with going through it all again right now.

Apparently we are missing squash: initialise error term to zero · popcornmix/xbmc@7367c17 · GitHub so this will be resolved in the next (probably final) release.

This will be fixed in the next official release (after Beta 1) - the fix has just been added to github (PR168)
-
ok cool, thanks millhouse, this is happening to me since upgrading to both new pi3 releases to v6.95.1
-
Same problem here ; upgraded to 6.95.1 and video is gone, only sound, oh and subtitles are shown !
I'll wait for the next upgrade ...Oh wait, tried a reboot as some suggested. Nothing changed at first, but suddenly after watching subtitles for a short while, the video kicked in !?

Hey…Why don’t’ try to change the video codec to fix black screen while trying to play videos. Sometimes, you might get several error messages due to incompatible video codec or absence of the right codec in your system. But, you can change the video codec to fix this issue using VLC Media Player. Here are the easy steps, how you can do so:
- Go to Tools & then Preferences.
- Next, you have to Input & Codecs option
- Now, tap on the Always Fix and click on the ‘Save’.
I hope this solution will resolve your black screen error problem. Good luck…
