[x86-64] 3D Support builds for AMD graphics

  • Thanks for providing that build!

    What is the current "merging" status of your fixes?

    If I have seen it correctly, the RGB-limited bug fix has been merged upstream? What about the HDMI1.4 3D part?

  • mitzsch Status as of today:

    • RGB limited range: yes, AMD took the fix into their staging tree (amd-staging-drm-next) on 23 September and closed the issue (drm/amd#5796). It reaches a regular kernel with a future release; until LibreELEC ships one, my builds keep carrying the patch.
    • RGB instead of YCbCr as the HDMI default: also landed in AMD's staging tree (28 September).
    • HDMI 1.4 3D (frame packing, side-by-side, top-and-bottom): the kernel series is on the amd-gfx mailing list (v3) and still waiting for AMD's review.

  • Sounds great!

    Hopefully, the HDMI 1.4 3D will also find its way into upstream soon. Thanks for all your work!

    Is there anything left that needs fixing on the AMD x86 side?

  • mitzsch Thanks! For 1080p/4K and 3D, nothing that I know of. What is left is at 8K over HDMI 2.1, where amdgpu still has a few rough edges:

    • some refresh-rate switches into an 8K mode can leave the display dark until the next switch;
    • a short hotplug from the display (e.g. switching its input away and back) can leave it dark;
    • with some active fibre cables, 8K can be lost when the display powers on; that one looks like the cable's power supply rather than the driver, and I'm still testing it.

    The first two are reported to AMD with logs (drm/amd issues 5770 and 5902).

  • You did it 🎉👏! Tested the new build w/several 3D MVC MKV's and now PQ w/"Use limited color range (16-235)" at its default (off) = RPi5's! Except...

    ... my Beelink w/Ryzen 7 5800H has about 2.25 times the performance. And, I can feel the power, snappiness difference... in fact, it's the fastest Kodi box I have now. We wouldn't have AMD 3D w/o popcornmix's RPi5/4 3D, but I may be using AMD more. Definitely keeping and using RPi5 as well, and maybe move it to a secondary media room w/a 3D UST projector. Of course, for those who don't already have an AMD-based PC, given hardware prices these days (bought mine for ~$350 in 2023, and now it's ~$590 😱), RPi5 would be more wallet-friendly and more than good enough.

    BTW, my BT issue is solved... needed to disable BT under LE settings > services, then enable it back.

    Yes, this did make a difference w/my Zidoo as well, but RPi5 and AMD still have sharper 3D, and more pop than Zidoo. I'd say RPi5 and AMD would be A++, Zidoo using Priority RGB444 8BIT for non-4K an A, and Amlogic-based h/w-decoding boxes a B+.

    I added your score in the spreadsheets, thanks

  • Round 42 is up: https://github.com/cinema-ONE/Lib…ound42-20261030

    Changes since round 36:

    • LibreELEC master of 2026-10-30 with Kodi 22 Piers and kernel 7.3.
    • popcornmix's current 3D branch, including disc resume and the playlist chooser, and a fix of mine he merged: Blu-ray 3D subtitles keep their depth when the title moves to its next play item.
    • A seek in a DTS-HD MA track with passthrough on no longer runs Kodi out of memory.
    • DisplayPort monitors that also advertise HDMI get full range RGB.

    I tested a full-length 3D Blu-ray ISO in frame packing, DTS-HD MA seeks with passthrough, and power-cycling the projector, on my NUC with an RX 7600.
