[x86-64] Can't install LibreELEC with RX550

  • Hi,

so far i used the iGPU of my AMD GPU. Now i tried a new graphic card (RX550) but i could start LE. I tried the installed LE and tried to boot from a new install usb drive. The graphic card works, i can see the mainboard start screen and bios. I also can see the first message of the install drive but then the screen is black. Is the GPU unsupported?

  • That's odd. Which motherboard do you use?

As a hack: assuming the IGPU is using kernel radeon driver and the RX550 amdgpu you can disable the radeon driver by adding initcall_blacklist=radeon_init kernel parameter to the APPEND line of /flash/syslinux.cfg

  • It's an AsRock AM1H-ITX.

Is there a list of supported GPUs?

Is used a Nvidia graphic card month before. This worked. The only thing i had to do was to switch to pci graphic in bios settings. So i don't thinks it's a problem with the bios settings.

  • Is there a list of supported GPUs?

No, we don't have a whitelist for PC components (too much work). The best thing you can do is going to the forums main page, and searching for a specific GPU. So you'll get search results from all sub-forums.

  • it is bit difficult t o install drivers on linux for polaris since supoort for opencl it is dropped for quite some time<

you can use normal driver if on ubuntu, and debian you can add additional driver like shown here

    AtiHowTo - Debian Wiki

also have this card, there should no problem be running kodi with it, but was said, with propietary driver from AMD you might encounter problems.

rx550 can function also on windows 7, windows 10,11.

    good luck!
