LE 8.2.5 with UHD 630 / Coffee Lake / Gemini Lake support and luks

  • sky42

I am running your build: LibreELEC-Generic.x86_64-8.2.5-6.42.2-201806041418-4.17

My config: A10-7860K with RX560 card.

Everything seems to work OK, but I notice there is no amdgpu Xorg driver. There is only a radeon driver. My understanding is that the radeon driver is old. Isn't the amdgpu Xorg driver needed to take full advantage of the admgpu-dc support in the 4.17 kernel?

  • YinYang

That should run with a normal 8.2.5 just fine. If you want to use encryption my version 1.42 is fine for you.

I am running 6.42 on my coffee lake and that is fine for you too, but not really needed.

  • Otter

The full advantage of AMD DC will not come in my 8.2.5 builds, because VAAPI with AMD is not possible with Kodi 17.

Try milhouse latest test build with 4.17 over here LE 9.0-devel for more Hardware (Gemini / Coffee / Cannon / Ice Lake, AMD Vega / Raven APU) and luks, lvm2, dm-raid

If you want encryption you need to be a little patient, because i learn the last days the lay of the land how to get LE9 building and running and i am not yet finished. Look in my LE9 thread for that.

  • YinYang

did you try any of these builds yet? If successful, do you have a chance to test with HD audio files from here?

    Dolby Trailers - ATMOS, Lossless TrueHD 7.1, AC3 5.1

    e.g. Leaf (Lossless-ATMOS) MKV H.264 1080p Dolby TrueHD 7.1 ATMOS

When I play it with official stable version 8.2.5 I only get a static noise when I use passthrough with some files.

In Windows with Kodi 18 alpha all is fine with the audio.

I have a similar system CI527 and when I used the "update" way by placing target/* to userdata/Update and reboot, it will upgrade, but I end up with a black screen. Lucky SSH and Samba are still reachable so I can always revert back to 8.2.5 stable.

Maybe someone can help... here is the debug log:

    http://ix.io/1dd7

Using USB stick to install a clean version to the SSD ends up with black screen too, I have the same issue with Milhouse 9 #0611... very strange.

    System:
Zotac CI527 (Intel HD 620) -> Yamaha RX-V583 -> Samsung 50MU6179 (connected to HDMI3 ARC, HDMI UHD Color enabled)

  • some updates ... what was done:

    8.2.5-5.42.2-4.14.49

    - kernel 14.14.49

    - rollback PR2403, VAAPI with AMD is not possible with Kodi 17 (no support in kodi)

    - clean build

    8.2.5-6.42.2-4.16.15

    - kernel 4.16.15

    - rollback PR2403, VAAPI with AMD is not possible with Kodi 17 (no support in kodi)

    - clean build

    - will probably the last 4.16.x one, after that i move on to 4.17 and make some updates from LE master for that

  • I tried LibreELEC-Generic.x86_64-8.2.5-6.42.2-4.16.14 and since then my Bluetooth stopped working^^ (no adapter found)... probably the kernel did something to the bluetooth device? Because after I went back to official stable 8.2.5 the adapter still didn't work (I reinstalled fresh from USB stick). I pulled out the power cable for a few minutes, then I got back Bluetooth in official 8.2.5 , but the Bluetooth still seems unstable because I cannot pair my Logitech Harmony. I will try the latest LibreELEC-Generic.x86_64-8.2.5-6.42.2-4.16.15 now :)

Bluetooth is okay again. One strange thing which I also have with the Milhouse 9: I can only use 1280x800 resolution...

  • IR for nuvoton_cir is broken, that means at least NUCs have no IR.

i deleted the release and made a new one. Move on to post #123.

some update ... what was done:

+++ I need feedback for the following points +++

    1. Coffee Lake

    - does it work as expected

    - i do that myself and it looks like it works running 4k right now with 8.2.5-6.42.3-201806171259-4.17.2

    2. Gemini Lake Intel NUC with GLK HDMI automatic fix for bug 105887

    - remove i915.glkhdmi=1 or i915.glkhdmi=2 from /etc/syslinux.cfg

    - all should be fine

    3. Gemini Lake ASRock with GLK HDMI automatic fix for bug 105887

    - remove i915.glkhdmi=1 or i915.glkhdmi=2 from /etc/syslinux.cfg

    - all should be fine

    4. Nivida user perferable some 1000

    - does it work?

    - needed to change $CC in package.mk

    5. AMD Vega and Raven APU

    - at least 4k HEVC 10bit does not work vdpau hardware accelerated

    - vdpau is limited with AMD (but i dont know exactly all of it)

    - VAAPI hardware acceleration with AMD will not work with Kodi 17, so you need LE9

    - VegaM will not work, because Mesa 18.0.x does not know them (a later 7.42 probably will, but also with same limitations above)

    6. mount problem Windows 10 Creators Update external disks

    - only in test release 8.2.5-6.42.3-201806171259-4.17.2

    - read here External hard drives no longer mount

    - is this problem gone?

    7. Wireless works fine?

    - i needed to update wireless-regdb for kernel 4.17

    - wlan works as usual?

    8. IR is broken on at least on NUCs and probably for all other nuvoton_cir

    - some timout optimizing patches are new

If all 8 points above are fine, the i wil release a final 8.2.5-6.42.3-4.17.2.

  • Gemini Lake NUC: HDMI bug seems to be fixed with 8.2.5-6.42.3-201806171259-4.17.2, but network seems to be dropping randomly.

8.2.5-6.42.2-4.16.15 was pretty stable with the exception of the HDMI bug. I'll try to get a Pastbin if the network recovers.
