Maybe you may need to specify what you mean by "cheap"?
..and what do you mean by little fuss?
If you don't want anything fancy like 4K output or Hevc support - then you can't beat the Raspberry Pi.

On the page libreelec-krypton-v8-1-0-beta under !!! SAMBA UPDATE – IMPORTANT !!! it states:
There is a new option in Kodi Settings > Services > SMB client > that allows SMB2 or SMB1 connections to be forced for compatibility with legacy SMB servers.
Would it be useful to add that this setting is only visible if you are "expert" as most users would probably be "standard".
I'm pretty sure the only option is to switch the power off, as there is still power to the RPi when shutdown (As you can see with the red led which stays on).
Hi
I'm using the trasnmision addon v.8.1.13 with the comunity version 8.1.5 from @kszaq that use ADDON_VERSION="8.2"
I get the following error
I got the same error after an upgrade to 8.1.0 with nzbget. Update didn't seem to improve matters, so I uninstalled and reinstalled and it works perfectly.
I'm now using an RPi-1 as a Pi-Hole box. Works outstanding.
Klojum I hadn't heard of Pi-Hole until now. As you say "works outstanding". Certainly a good use for old RPi1's. Even stops ads on my Android phones and tablets. Thanks for mentioning it.
cec-client might also give you what you want
echo h | cec-client -s -d 1
for a list of available options
cec-client [ad] {addr} checks whether the specified device is active.
Wifi is a real PITA. 144Mbps was no good, even with an extender, ditto 300Mbps. I got round it by using a 1Gb home plug but that required dedicated sockets (to reduce signal noise). Eventually I bought a 5ghz wifi antenna and I haven't had any problems since - yet to try it on DTS-MA 7ch but it should be fine as I already get 6.3MB/s off of the internet (Which is my max download speed).
I don't know what your hardware is, or your location of the hub from your LE box but if 5Ghz is available, I'd give that a go.
I don't know what user Kodibuntu uses but Libreelec uses root - has root got access to your smb share.
Can you mount the share via the command line?
On you server can you check that the parameter "min protocol" is not set to SMB2
I can connect to my NAS (Arch Linux) without any issues - but it is an open system.
Have you turned on Samba in Programs -> LibreElec -> Services ?
If so have you modified samba.conf in /storage/.config ?
Have you set min protocol = SMB2? as this could cause some problems.
I think you need buffermode 1 See Video Cache
vpeter : Thanks for that, worked like a charm. I set the IP via dhcp reservation in the router and it works perfectly.
Have a look Here. It's the code used for the "Hotpi", and it might give you some ideas.
Yes that works: The problem was a null 00:00:00:00:00 MAC address and thus a random one was being generated.
Is there anyway to set a static IP address? The connman manual suggests that you can but only on the xxxx.managed.psk file, which of course is always different on reboot.
Is this possible, as setting a DHCP reservation doesn't work or do I just have to live with dhcp?
@mglae Thanks for the that - wifi seems to have started working again after a reboot. Will use the information when I get another failure.
I've found in Windows you need to eject (Using the windows eject) the SD card after using SD Formater. Re-insert it and then use the LE SD creator program to create the SD card LE SD creator for windows
Logfiles: dmesg kodi.log lsmod
I purchased a new generic USB Wifi dongle with external antenna to see if I could improve on the limitations of the Cubox's internal 2.4Ghz antenna. Much to my amazement it worked straight out of the box. However after a reboot, it failed to connect with "Invalid argument" error. After a number of failed attempts (around 6), Kodi crashes and restarts.
At this point, sometime - but not always - you can connect to wlan1, having to add the passkey again, and it connects.
One problem is that I cannot delete nor edit the connection until it has connected, so I can't connect to another SSID via wlan1.
The SSID is 11 characters log with no spaces, whereas the passkey is 19 characters with spaces (If that makes any difference).
This might help
It seems to me that the volume doesn't have a volume label. LE normally mounts a drive as /var/media/<Label>
If that is not the case post output of dmesg.
I'm not aware of any hard linking, so best to actually add them just once
