for which kernel do you build ?
Not too sure , it was a standard compile from master.

No, it doesn't compile: It errors on the media_build stage. I didn't look too far into it, but there were errors before the termination, related to RPi and I2C. I was going to check further but ran out of time and wasn't too sure what to look for. Will try again tomorrow.
CvH Thanks for that. However 8.2 had issues on the Cubox - As soon as the LE logo appeared it rebooted, and then repeated constantly. Not too sure if it's worth bothering to investigate further or wait until 8.1.1 master is fixed and try then.
Compiling LE 8.2 on IMX6 with media_build is failing with:
-----------------------------------------------------
armv7ve-libreelec-linux-gnueabi'
UNPACK wpa_supplicant
gzip: stdin: not in gzip format
tar: Child returned status 1
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
Makefile:12: recipe for target 'image' failed
make: *** [image] Error 2
------------------------------------------------------
cd sources
file wpa_supplicant-2.5.tar.gz shows:
wpa_supplicant-2.5.tar.gz: HTML document, ASCII text, with very long lines, with no line terminators.
more wpa_supplicant-2.5.tar.gz.url shows:
** Which doesn't exist **
I've tried rerunning with RPi2 instead of IMX6:
With the same results.
-----------------------------
Currently: Downloaded wpa_supplicant-2.5.tar.gz into ../source/wpa_supplicant (Which is gzip format) and re-running compile.
Well that seemed to compile, now just need to see if it even works - but that's for another day.
CvH I'm willing to try and compile an IMX6 version with media build support. Do I need to do anything special, or do I just need to compile it (based on the wiki) and the media build will be included?
If you want to "Try", then there is still a 32 bit version of OpenElec 5 Here
CvH Thanks for the confirmation. Will wait and see if it does make it to the cubox.
I got one of these to play with and it works a dream on a RPi3, however it cannot be found on a cubox-i4. I'm guessing this is because the drivers haven't yet made it to the IMX6 (or are not available) yet. Am I correct? If not I'll need to dig deeper.
Ooops - My bad. Should have been directed to @jnye6601
noggin - You could try contacting AVerMedia and ask if they know of any linux driver (depends on what differences there are). There may be something already compatible with your device like the A835.
I think this is related to WD's VCD (Virtual CD).
"The VCD (Virtual CD) is an area of the external hard drive made visible by the drive's firmware. It contains the WD SmartWare software and other drive utilities.
There's a youtube link on the WD website to disable VCD Here
I've been having the same conundrum, from research I'm looking at either Intel NUC7i5BNK (7260U) or Intel NUC7i3BNK (7100U). They seem to be able to handle all of your requirements - 4K, HEVC etc. However, they are soldered on boards, so a cpu upgrade is not possible. But any upgrade needed would not be due to the cpu but hardware decoding or any new peripherals.
I think the i3 will handle anything at the moment but for and extra £40+ for the i5 (In the UK, if you buy wisely) is probably a better solution. I would also look at a Sandisk Evo 960 M2 instead of a SSD , as it is a lot faster, and use the SATA for movies etc (If needed)
My only concern is fan noise, and I don't fancy spending £150+ on a fanless case. There are plenty of NUC users on the forum, so they might offer more advise if this is the best option.

I guess as a last resort you could try the hifiberrys image Here If that still doesn't work, then back to the shop.
File plays perfectly via hifiberry-digi via s/pdif (toslink).
I would try seeing if you get any sound out of the headphone socket. I would also check that the board is installed properly - it's easy to get it misaligned by one pin.
To eliminate any ac3 problems, try a standard mp3 file and see if that is the same. If still no joy, it does sound like a board issue.
I tried a normal .ac3 file on my RPi2 with hifiberry-digi and it worked without issue.
I also tried your file on a standard LE system (IMX6) with passthrough and it played without issue.
I can try your file on my RPi2 tomorrow and see if there are any problems.
Can you check that the file on your RPi3 is the same size as the original. I would also try FTP to transfer the file across again as if the file is corrupted on the RPi3 then that could be your problem.
I also see you have opened a ticket with Hifiberry concerning playing this file with VLC. (It plays perfectly on Ubuntu with VLC)
