DVB issue since LE switched to kernel 4.9.x

o.k. tested it with a fresh install of libreelec (it automaticly updated to version 8.1.2 x64 generic and it is working!

No more artefacts ... no more continuity counter error !

So is this issue resolved?

What was the commit that caused the problem?

popcornmix did this issue affect OSMC also as I get green artifacts using HD channels although not as often using bob deinterlace.

So far with what we/you know about this issue, what would be the current recommendation for the kernel version to use (when having to use a USB DVB device)?

It looks like it may be 4.8 after reading the whole (or a big part) of the thread.

Would you confirm that 4.8 would be the newest kernel not having the issue described here?

any progress? just tested latest kernel 4.13.12 on x86 +S950 and it's still affected

Looks like it's I/O dependent: the problem manifests after tens of minutes when just displaying DVB stream (cca 90mins) but with heavy disc I/O in serveral minutes...

I notice that LibreELEC 8.2.0 has been released, but doesn't look like the kernel bug is fixed.

Any chance of an x86 build of 8.2.0 with the old 4.8 kernel?

I'm also on x86 generic build with of 8.2 and have this issues. Latest working official release was 7.90.10 that had already a 4.9.0 kernel. After this release LE was not usable anymore. I tested with every release up to 8.02 and than stopped testing. Now tested again with 8.2 on a brand new install and things improved a bit, but the bug is still not solved. I see artefacts on SD channels, too.

I already reported this in TV broken in v7.95.1 and later / artefacts on all channels where nobody answered at all. Thanks.

I'd also like to test with older kernel 4.8 if this solves the issue.

Digital Devices Cine S2 v5.4, Unicable, Intel Atom, 7.90.10 runs fine.

CvH I only have Digital Devices Cine S2 v5.4 (DVB-S2 card), but exactly the same issues.

CvH I understand that buying hardware is not the best solution, but how about ordering on Amazon, debug the issue and send it back within the first 30 days? So it would be free of charge for you. I guess most people here are not qualified enough to debug a kernel issue.

Anyway thank you for your work. I wanted to start for the very first time compiling by my own this weekend - useless, as you explained.

So there are only a few ways for users like me with RPi2/3 and DVBSky S960: staying at the "last" running build 8.0.2, changing the hardware or changing the distro (to a one with kernel <4.9). Or hoping for a kernel-patch. Right?
