RPi5 rebooting every hour (or so) only when idle

  • Hi there!

I'm suddenly having issues with my LibreELEC installation, which has been working flawlessly for months if not years now. About ten days ago, the Pi started rebooting about once an hour, but only when it's idle. I can press play on a media file, pause, and come back the next day and it's still there, but when it's idle in the Kodi interface itself, it'll keep rebooting. AFAIK I did not install a new add-on or make any changes to the setup; I don't keep 100% track of which addons are updated when, though, so that could always be it. Can't rule it out, but doubtful.

Setup : RPi5 w/ LibreELEC 12.2.1 with Aeon Nox Silvo, ethernet connection to a switch (itself connected via ethernet to a Google Nest Wifi Pro mesh router). Media drive is a Synology DS423 NAS, connected via ethernet to the same switch.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks very much!

Hi, if you're ready to put some work for yourself... first should check if it's a software or hardware issue ("every hardware works perfectly... till become defective"). Grab a spare SD card, install a fresh LE, with the bare minimum settings and addons and try it. If working well (no hardware problem), add your settings and addons step by step, checking if the issue return. Also if you have connected any device to the USB, should be removed for testing.

  • I think the culprit has been found! I did what I should've done before posting here and disabled one addon after the other until the problem stopped happening. It has now been four plus hours without a reboot.

For anyone interested, it was Subtitle Mangler.
