[x86-64] libreelec-yblod - Dolby Vision builds for Intel based systems and LG WebOS TVs

  • This thread is to discuss testing and development of my personal builds as to keep the main DV thread less busy.

All of the work on these builds specifically targets intel-based systems and LG OLED TVs (CX or later). AMD systems will not benefit from much of the changes. 3D isn't supported currently.

    EDIT: AMD now supported w/vulkan

Much of the optimizations will be or have already been pulled into CroqueMR's wider-support builds.

Expect bugs and please stay on CroqueMR's builds if you are looking for a more stable experience.

  • If you have an LG (webos) TV there are some extra goodies in there. Can control picture mode directly in Kodi. Set picture mode and options based on content playing. Better integration with the magic remote if your TV is rooted (cursor / scroll wheel / button mapping / more responsive than CEC).

AMD users should see performance improvements with this build using vulkan.

could you explain in what way it's more performant? looking at your GitHub page, I see the timing for profile 8 has improved but not for others. Just curious what you've done

Lower powered AMD devices should perform better with Vulkan. Not every single DV profile will have improvements. The newest release has updated clock speeds for playback which cut FEL frame processing times in half on a 3500u. I only have a ryzen 3500u to test with, so any feedback is helpful.

If you are interested in what has changed you can look through the commit history - but these are my personal builds for testing and development and shouldn't be used as a daily driver.

This isn't released yet right? Vulcan is more closer to bare metal than current implementation right? does this mean your implementation has reduced minimum hardware requirements , so say a 3200U or even lower can handle what previously needed a 3500U? any further optimisations do you think you have left to squeeze? very cool stuff btw. I don't have DV hardware, I just find it cool so join in conversations

  • Man, I didn't even knew it was a possibility.

yeah root + kexeec and chroot could get libreelec running natively on a webos TV. Unfortunately FEL playback would not be possible, theoretically every other DV profile would work though. I have played around with it a bit, and its definitely possible.
