[x86-64] How do I upgrade from 10.0.4 Generic x84_64 to a newer version of LibreElec?

  • Hi

I currently have LibreElec 10.0.4 Generic x86_64 running on my HTPC. I think I have left it too late to simply do the upgrade in the LibreElec Settings area in Kodi UI.

    The HTPC spec is:

    HTPC Case – OrigenAE M10
    Motherboard - Intel DH67CF
    CPU – Intel 2nd Generation Core i3-2100
    Aftermarket Cooler – Akasa K25
    Zalman Fan Mate 2
    RAM - Corsair 4GB DDR3
    SSD – Crucial 64GB M4
    Blu-ray ROM – Sony BC-5650H

I am not sure what to do? or what newer version I can upgrade too easily ?

    Many thanks in advance.

Also probably should of said, I've just taken a backup and it created a .tar file and I also have SSH (Putty) and WinSCP access to the box already.

I have two HTPC's they connect to a central MYSQL (MariaDB) on my file server, if that is also of any relevance ?

I am also using the Estuary Mod V2 Skin, not sure if that is still supported with newer versions of Kodi.

    Thanks

  • Been asking Gemini A.I it says I need the Generic-Legacy version:

    Generic-legacy LibreELEC-Generic-legacy.x86_64-12.2.1.img.gz

It suggested deleting any add-ons I am not still using first and switch back to the default Kodi skin before doing the upgrade.

It's also suggesting I should delete all my addons before the upgrade ??? And gave me these command to run.

"Clearing the add-on binaries right before the upgrade. This keeps your settings (API keys, login info, trakt links) but forces Kodi to re-download the correct version of the add-on for Kodi 21."

    systemctl stop kodi

    rm -rf /storage/.kodi/addons/*

    systemctl start kodi

    It then said:

"Re-enable/Update: Once you boot into LibreELEC 12, go to My Add-ons. You’ll see them listed but they may be "Disabled" or "Broken." Simply click "Update" or "Enable" on each, and Kodi will pull the compatible version from the repo."

Anything else? I need to be aware of or do? These big upgrades always make me nervous lol.

  • Maybe just get new SSD and install fresh? If you do not like new version, you just put old SSD back.

No idea if there are schema differences between v10 and v12 databases. Maybe devs can tell that.

  • Have a look at the Updating wiki entry. Dump the Generic image in the \update share, as described.

If Generic is already working for you, give it a try before Generic_Legacy. Though I can't recall exactly if older Intel graphic drivers were dropped in newer version -- hopefully I'm not confusing things.

I can't comment on addons, short of you may run into issues if the addon isn't updated/available for the new version. You'd have to check the individual addon.

If you have a good backup, and tested, you can always get back to where you were.

  • LE10 to LE12.x requires you to navigate the Python3 change in Kodi so deleting all (Python2) add-ons before update mitigates issues with them crashing and causing problems on post-update restart before Kodi has been able to download newer (Python3) versions. Add-on settings remain intact so normally all you need to do is reinstall add-ons from repos again. The Estuary Mod v2 skin seems to be available (under a new maintainer) https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=366400. The rest of the OS should update fine and you do not have an nVidia GPU so there is no need to run the Generic-Legacy image.

Thank you! So I can just stick to using the Generic version then by the sounds of it. I will delete the addons then first as advised.

    Cheers.
