EEPROM/Firmware Pi 5 - how ?

The easiest way is to ssh in and run "rpi-eeprom-update -a" - this will update the EEPROM to the version included in LE (the next nightly builds will include the 2023-12-06 version).

If you want or need to install a newer version either use the eeprom recovery image or download the pieeprom file from github and run "rpi-eeprom-update -f your-pieeprom-file.bin" (the latter will preserve the bootloader config).

If we do the eeprom update on the rpi5, is it then possible to put LE on a USB stick instead of a SD card? I want to use actually an USB stick instead of SD card. There are a lot if usb sticks which is more faster then the SD cards.

USB boot should be enabled by default in the bootloader config, so just make sure you are using the latest bootloader eeprom version.

BTW: the latest LE12 nightly images now also support updating the bootloader eeprom in LE settings, like on RPi4.

If USB boot is enabled I could always also use the sd boot without doing any changes?

How do I get the latest eeprom update? I am using LE 11.0.6. Best way to do is by raspberry pi imager application? Or via LE using putty by ssh?

And what is different between the LE 12 nightly instead of LE 11.0.6 ?

"rpi-eeprom-update -a" .. then reboot, and the main difference is another 18+ months of Kodi development, and a newer RPi kernel and drivers. We will be forking the release branch soon; nightlies are stable (except for the name).

I'm using nightly on Pi5, I did the eeprom update last night via libreelec settings, it worked fine. Nightlies are just for name and very stable.

And after the update I can do the LE on usb instead of sd?

The current firmware should support USB boot already, but it's never a bad idea or update and run the lastest boot firmware.

I tried to usb boot but it does not work. I mean i put le on usb stick but it is not booting. Perhaps i need to update the eeprom. After the update do I need to change something?
