[UNOFFICIAL][Le11-10][RK3228/RK3229][box]Libreelec builds

  • Well i gave up. and returning the unit.

i bought a Dell optiplex SFF 3060 with a core i5 8400T with 8GB/1TB that is almost the same size as the tv box. And has all the features i need when installing LibreElec on it.

Maybe overkill but i just had it with the irritating tv box that just don't want to work like i want. and the cost for the dell sff where under 200,-

  • Hi SN33KY,

the important thing is that you have satisfied your need, even if I'm sorry because with your contribution I could have fixed something.

For me, it makes little sense to compare an Android box to a PC (although I prefer boxes because they are silent and consume very little electricity).

However, in my experience, you pay for what you get. What gets sacrificed to keep costs down with the Android boxes I see around is the quality of the software. For example, Amazon products have an even older soc than rk3229. But the software is of good quality and therefore works.

My project aims to fill the gap by bringing high quality software (libreelec) to these devices. Unfortunately time, skills, and availability of devices for tests... sometimes makes it difficult to please everyone :)

  • Hey ilmich,

    I understand you completely.

Don't see this to criticism towards you as a person.

I bought this box as a birthday present so that this person could watch series & movies in an easy way that i put on an external HDD for him (€30).

Initial birthday gift was an external HDD with some series on it that she likes to watch. But apparently the current devices they had didn't support playback.

So I bought this box as a solution (extra €30,-), because it is so neat to give a working gift. so the content could be played at her place.

So unfortunately, all that was not so simple, and I am ASAP providing a solution to the problems I experienced with it. So that my birthday present (meanwhile 60 euros) does what it was intended for.

    - HDD was not getting enough power via USB on this box. so 265GB USB stick bought (again 30 euro extra) stick bought as possible solution. worked.

    - Android interface, speed, ease of use and Remote control was a disaster (not user friendly) of this box. So I tried to put Kodi libreElec on it. But that again took me hours of times and dint work.

So total costs were already €90, without the problems solved. Therefore all additional devices returned to the selling parties and I bought a Dell Optiplex 3060 SFF as the solution. Set up LibreElec there and put the media on the internal HDD. Cost me €120,- Euro. (€again 30 extra)

No hassle, fast, user-friendly and good remote control (which I still had lying around), USB ports work, etc. So all plus points.

Sometimes we just want something that works, without all the hassle. And mostly cheap.... but i learned my lesson here ;)

  • Hi SN33KY

    don't worry, I didn't take it personally.

But for users reading, you were just unlucky and impatient.

By the way, in my region (europe) the hardware you mentioned seems out of production and even looking for it used it costs much more than 100€ (and often sold without hard disk and with 16GB of ram).

Could you please tell me where did you buy the box you returned?! I'm also looking for one with emcp.

    thank you

    Michele

That is, cheap chinese crap works that way.

It is mostly garbage that pollutes the world, and you pay for that too.

  • Hi all,

    new build available with:

    - linux 5.10.158

    - mesa 22.3.0

    - upgraded and fixed legacy bootloader

    - updated libreelec to the latest upstream changes

There's good news. Thanks to the libreelec community, I have official space for my builds. The new link can be found in the first post.

I'm starting to remove some old builds (gdrive for sure).

    Cheers

    Michele

  • other news.

I'm working on a fork of rkflashtool improving it as much as possible:

GitHub - ilmich/rkflashtool: Tools for flashing Rockchip devices
Tools for flashing Rockchip devices. Contribute to ilmich/rkflashtool development by creating an account on GitHub.
    github.com

The goal is to create a tool (also graphical and for windows) to facilitate flash operations on internal memory (especially nand). The multitool is the best tool, but for those with nand devices, not the most optimal(yet).

  • Hello anjarys

I'm glad you like it. What kind of box do you have!?!

Anyway, I haven't written a tutorial (yet), but the best tool is the multitool made by jock2 for armbian.

You can find it here https://forum.armbian.com/topic/12656-cs…k322x-tv-boxes/.

Basically, it's a small operating system that allows you to backup/restore internal memory and flash images. It works perfectly and you can find the details in the excellent guide by jock2. (clearly the guide is for armbian, but it also applies to libreelec images)

Let me know if you have any problems.

    Cheers

Thanks, I didn't think of that, I'll check it tomorrow. :)
