Nmon for raspberry pi 3

Hello, im new to this form and have been using LibreELEC on my raspberry pi 3 for 4 months now and i really love it. i made the switch form openELEC before.

I did not know where to post this or even if its in the right place. just looking for some help with it. i would like to use the nmon to see system usages. especiallyi when i am testing the Alpha builds, and stressing out the system with x265. i have been foiled at every attempt to install it on my raspberry pi. if anyone could help me or point me in a direction i would greatly appreciate it.

Hello thor2189,

The precompiled version of nmon requires ncurses shared libraries, but ncurses is built static on LE.

You (or someone) will therefore have to compile it for LE.

How are you playing x265?

Playing HEVC on the RPi2/3 can only be done via software. 720p h.265 is doable, 1080p h.265 is very problematic.

thank you for your advice and i will look into it. x256 is somewhat ok for 720p but unplayable in 1080. as it was mentioned it is software driven and i have been using TOP to see the system when playing x256 in 1080 to find what, and how i can make small improvements for it. TOP is ok but i would like to see more system information. the Alpha build (17 i think) is better. i think there needs to be a 64bit version to make it a little bit better. i have done some adjusting with the "advancedconfig.xml" file just to play with how videos load over the network.

FYI, the Raspberry Pi GPU simply has no HEVC decoder built-in, so overclocking the RPi or using a pure 64bit Kodi-application still won't turn your RPi magically into a HEVC player. For proper 1080p/4K HEVC video play you will have to look at S905 based Android boxes for that, or with some more financial input, choose Intel's Braswell / Skylake / Apollo Lake machines, as well as NVidia Shield, or fullblown PC's with Nvidia GTX950/960/1050-1080 or AMD newest APU/GPUs.

As the original thread was about NMON and not x265 I would like to add my thoughts.

I would LOVE nmon be included in the standard distro. It is my de-facto monitoring system tool on RPi and IMX6 - I didn't use OE because of this, preferring XBian.
However, if it could be included (either as standard or as a Kodi addon) it would be great.

OT. No the RPi (zero, A, B, 2, or 3 cannot play x265 - please keep to the thread)

I did not manage to build escalade's package.
I therefore created another one, see attachment.
The resulting binary (for LE8 on RPi2) runs and can be found here.
thor2189, can you confirm it behaves as you expect.
If so, I will add it to the system-tools addon.

I build against master. Building needs termcap. I submitted a PR to your repo to correct arm/X86.

Thank you all for your help i really want to give a shout out to awiouy and escalade. you guys really do rock. i have not tested this as of yet (been away for a business trip). i am very excited to test this when my plan lands. again thank you all for your help, wisdom, and time.

awiouy I've looked around and tried but I cannot find how to compile a "package" on IMX6 - am I missing something? I can see how to compile LE but not a package.

Any chance you could supply a compiled version for IMX6 or give me a better idea on how to do it - after which I can release to other users.

It was not included for IMX6 V7.90.007 (is it included in later releases?). It is there for RPi.
