SMB broken in nightlies RPI4

  • Version nightly 20210130-ob9711c

    When trying to play a file on a SMB share I get the following error

    2021-01-31 14:01:02.999 T:805 INFO <general>: VideoPlayer::OpenFile: smb://hyperv1/Video/12_MONKEYS.mkv

    2021-01-31 14:01:03.002 T:947 INFO <general>: Creating InputStream

    2021-01-31 14:01:04.047 T:947 ERROR <general>: SMBDirectory->GetDirectory: Unable to open directory : 'smb://USERNAME:[email protected]/Video'

    unix_err:'65' error : 'Network is unreachable'

    2021-01-31 14:01:04.047 T:947 ERROR <general>: GetDirectory - Error getting smb://hyperv1/Video/

    the hostname is not 172.31.144.1 and the name does not resolve to that on the pi4

    Error has been present since at least the 26th Jan 2021 was not present in builds from 16th January. Reverting to this build SMB works again

  • Please restart LibreELEC whenever you enable debugging in Kodi. Or better yet, simply set the loglevel to '1' via the advancedsettings.xml file. That enables debugging without any OSD debug info.

    But now the detailed section only starts somewhere in the middle of your log file. Just a thought.

  • I wonder the same.

    SMB shares from windows computer aren't accessible via later nightly builds for me either.

    Ive been fiddling around with different settings, v1 v2 and v3 settings but i cannot seem to access Libreelec from a windows pc or other way around.

    This worked perfect earilier and my setup hasnt changed.

    Kodi on PC, Rpi 3, and 2 Apple TV 4k (Mrmc) all shares same library and SMB works there np, its just the pi4 that wont work atm.

  • Apologies for the delay in responding.

    I downloaded last nights 10th Feb nightly and the issue remains.

    Here is the log with loglevel 1 set in advanced settings

    I think the relevant parts are these

    172.20.64.1 is not in my network so not sure where that is coming from

    I have no idea why that ip string shows up. My local network is 192.168.1.* and not 56.

    Ar we the only 2 that uses SMB and nightly with problems?

  • I suspect the issue started after samba was updated to 4.13.4.

    As a workaround you can use the ip instead of a host name and it will work.

  • Still having the SMB issue on the newest 2nd March nightly.

    I tried editing sources.xml and replacing with the IP and this also fails.

  • The Samba change on 26/1 is where fingers naturally point, but I use SMB(2/3) from an assortment of devices in the same share configuration that has not been touched in several years (Synology NAS with SMB shares and SQL) so it's something nuanced and not a general SMB problem.

    Start by describing the sharing environment with SW versions, and if Windows is the server target, state the credential types being used.

  • Client Raspberry PI4

    Host Windows 2019 standard build 17763

    Credentials in username format with no domain specified

  • my passwords.xml looks like this

    obviously with the username and password removed

    pi4LibreELEC:~/.kodi/userdata # cat passwords.xml

    <passwords>

    <path>

    <from pathversion="1">smb://hyperv1/Roms</from>

    <to pathversion="1">smb://<username>:<password>@hyperv1/Roms</to>

    <from pathversion="1">smb://hyperv1/Video</from>

  • I've never understood how/when passwords.xml gets used .. I've always defined sources in sources.xml which has a similar format, see above. I'm not sure that's even remotely a solution to the problem. For kicks, use CAPITALS for server names and paths.

  • OK I changed the paths in sources.xml to include the username and password and changed the host to fqdn.

    I then noticed that it was trying to connect to a private ip address on the file server which is not published as a dns entry.

    server 192.168.1.1 and it tries to connect to 192.168.199.1 for example.

    Updating sources.xml to be the username [email protected] has seemed to fix the issue.

    Something is screwy with the name resolution here though as that address it is finding for the hostname does not match any dns entry and it is listed 3rd in nmblookup <hostname>
