Those are only DRM PRIME stuff. GBM VAAPI is fully functional (without HDR) in current LE master without those non-upstreamed patches.

Nvidia users are better off using Windows 10. Actually, my main PC is Ryzen 5 3600 with Nvidia GTX 1650 running Windows 10
Discrete graphics doesn't make sense for a dedicated LibreELEC box anyway. Low-power APUs and SoCs is what LE is all about IMO.

Agreed, plus the last time we had a dedicated Nvidia IGP chipset for the HTPC crowd was the ION, and that was ~2009 tech.

I have a question for the developers in this thread:
How likely do you think it is, that we will see working HBR audio via Audio Passthrough (which is my personal top priority) and working HDR on a NUC11 or NUC10 like NUC11PAHi7 (Tiger Lake) or NUC10i7FNH (Frost Canyon?) in LibreELEC within the next three months or so?
I am willing to buy such a system and test every test version you throw at me and give you feedback, if that helps. 
LE will package whatever support is available in the upstream kernel, backported if necessary, but we're not going to write kernel audio driver code to add support. So best to ask that Q to Intel audio devs - who will write the code.

It was not my intention to ask the devs for rewriting the drivers.
I was not aware that the drivers are the only problem. Until your reply I was under the impression that LE itself could play its part in the problem.

What is the advantage of bitstreaming the audio vs.sending the decoded LPCM to AVR? Just trying to understand why people care so much about audio passthrough. I'd like to hear a valid technical reason why bitstreaming is supposed to be better than decoding to LPCM. Since Kodi can decode all known HBR audio formats and send LPCM 7.1 over HDMI I don't see a single good reason why anyone should bother with passthrough.

I run a moderately high-end AVR and speakers arrangement that does a much better job at converting HBR audio into awesome sound than the Kodi PCM output does. So (playing with words) I don't see a good reason, but I frequently hear one.

The same goes for me. I have IMO a pretty good AVR. I want that device to decode audio and not Kodi. The difference is well audible.

For iPlayer TV watching and older lower quality DVD rips that's completely true, but when I listen to SACD or watch well mastered 4K UHD rips the difference is - to my ears - quite clear.

I would agree - but what's being discussed is the benefits of different decoders in different locations (at different points in the signal chain). In the AVR at least, there is generally a highly capable DSP largely dedicated to the task. I am not such a critical listener, but I also generally choose to have the AVR doing the decoding. I do know that I am very sensitive to any glitching in the audio. Perhaps the difference comes down to the re-timing of audio to maintain synchronisation when the decode is handled by Kodi...? (just a hunch - I am not the expert here).
