Kernel config is 100% the same in my 7.0 and 8.0 builds. I suspect it may be LibreSSL issue.
Tried this afl1 build with no difference. From some limited reading I also suspect LibreSSL. Any way to test this?

Current version has no hw crypto support. Try this special version built with amlogic hw crypto support:
LibreELEC-S905.arm-8.0-devel-7.95.beta6X-20170215151926.img.gz
Is this an issue only on 8.0 builds? My VPN was working beautifully (40+MB) with 7.0.3.x but I took a huge hit moving to 8.0 (2-3MB.)
LibreElec installs and runs ok, wifi & ethernet connects BUT when I reboot it doesn't keep the wifi connected, I can only use ethernet to use my network.
I have the same box with no network issues. Do you have both wifi and ethernet enabled in Libreelec settings? If so, LE will always use the ethernet connection if it is plugged in. Maybe try disabling ethernet in settings and see if wifi auto connects on boot?
I have been reprimanded for complaining about this here before, but unfortunately passthrough with livetv on Krypton has been intentionally dropped.
This is a decision made by the Kodi devs. No more passthrough with livetv, period!
See this discussion, it's one of many. Audio Passthrough on LiveTV
My box is a strange beast then. Passthrough works with Beta6 (didn't work with Beta5)
In that case I think I'll have to give beta6 a try then! Who fiddled with the kodi code I wonder?
Sorry folks, NO PASSTHROUGH WITH LIVETV on Krypton. It's by design. The devs are aware that people are upset, they claim it will not be added going forward.
I suggest you take up passthrough issues on the Kodi forums.
Here is one for an X96 box. 2G/16 s905x
[hr]
And here's one for an OTT MXQ 1G/8 s805
Or you could just use the LE backup tool.
1. Make backup while running from old SD and save it somewhere (PC, USB drive, etc.)
2. Burn LE to new SD card with LE USB tool.
3. Boot new SD card
4. Copy your backup to SD card and restore with LE tool.
5. Profit
You could image the 4GB card on your 16GB directly using dd in linux, but then you would also need to use gparted to expand the 2nd partition to use the extra new space available.
Hmmmm... this could be useful to me as well. It never occurred to me to kill the HDMI feed.
OK. In my opinion, Kodi 17 is not ready for final release.
I understand that there was a major refactoring in both the audio stack and the video player. However, I am far from the only one who has a problem with the decisions that have been made regarding audio issues. Number one being no passthrough for LiveTV (design choice, not a bug and won't be fixed according to devs.) Number two being buggy, intermittent passthrough in general.
Of course, if you only listen through the built in speakers on your TV or you don't mind never knowing when and if passthrough might actually work then Krypton is just dandy.
If audio is at all important to you, DO NOT upgrade to Krypton. The whole audio system is fubar. Maybe in a year or so. Or Kodi 18?
Here is some more info on the state of audio on 17 -> PVR without AC3?
Has dual band WiFi but more importantly, 1000mb LAN! Hope the chips are supported, will order soon.
Watch out with that. I see that device listed at loads of other places stating it has 10/100 ethernet only.
Processor: S905 Amlogic processor (best support?)
GPU: Octo-Core Mali-450Mali 450
Ram: 2GB
Wifi / BT Chip: Broadcom 4335 Wifi or clone of
Looks pretty reasonable. I wouldn't discount s905x as an option either.
I understand that some people just NEED to use wifi for whatever reason, but until they start supporting wireless-ac I don't even factor it in. If at all possible you really, really want a wired connection for any Kodi box. If I really had to do wifi I think I would just repurpose an old router and use it in Client Mode despite the little bit of overhead.
As far as bluetooth goes I also pay no attention. I got really tired of struggling with BT on previous boxes I had. I ended up getting 4 nano size BT adapters off ebay for 99 cents each. They work flawlessly and its now something I don't have to worry about.
Why?
You will only get passthrough with local files. Kodi devs claim that there is no way to properly sync audio/video with passthrough enabled for livetv. People report this is the same for streams as well.
Search the Kodi forums for the details, but it's just a lot of users pulling their hair out and devs claiming that working passthrough on 16 was just a fluke.
This alone will keep a lot of folks on Jarvis for quite some time.
If you're on Krypton you can forget about passthrough. Also if you're using an Amlogic box audio is output to all devices simultaneously.
You might try <buffermode>1 in advancedsettings.xml.
Try setting Audio output configuration to "Fixed" in Settings>System>Audio and maybe more importantly Settings>Video>Player>Prefer Default Audio Steams to "ON"
