OK took me an hour to install on 905X box because I missed this instruction.. hiding in plain sight!:

"You can leave a tree that is already present on SD card (fresh install only)"

Yes, I had been needlessly replacing that file ... wasn't until I used the default one that is flashed with the image in Rufus that it cured the "hang at boot".

8.0.1k working great on my Mini MX 2G so far (installed to NAND). For people having problems with latest versions... make sure you don't have the GUI set to 4k resolution. I had set that ages ago and had forgotten about it... because it didn't cause me problems in older builds (yes I know its just 1080p upscaled). Now I have the GUI set back to 1080p, the GUI is fine instead of bombing out to a black screen for 20 seconds at a time. 4k movies still play back fine. All good!

    Thanks kszaq, nice one! :)

    The Coolest
I cleared another sdcard and used rufus to install the K version. Kodi appeared on the screen so the bootup indeed went well.
The remote didn't work though. Did the procedure again but this time copied the renamed mxq pro device tree to sdcard. Stripes on the screen again. As I need this remote, I think I'll stay with the J version for now.

For me, even a clean installation of K does not work (Mini MX 2G). It bombs out at the LE logo, same as when I upgrade to J from K. Just thought I'd mention it as a few people here are saying that a clean install kinda works. It is connected to a 4K TV, which may be significant. I don't have a different TV to try it on.

Neither build of K work for me. Latest build garbles the screen after boot (pic).

Log attached. Is this the juicy bit?

Here on my Mini MX 2G, 8.01a works (including 4k).

But starting with 8.01b, no movies play (black screen - "no signal"). Unless I bypass my Yamaha amp altogether.

Then from 8.01c onwards (I tried all up until 8.01h), I just get a black screen after the LE splash, so can't even get into the menus - unless I revert my amp's colourspace setting from 4:4:4 to 4:2:0. That fixes the menus, but movies still don't play.

Exact same issue with the 17 Apr dev build of the 7.x branch, whereas 7.0.3.012j works fine.

Maybe one of my HDMI cables is too old... I will try a new cable next week. Just seems odd that 4k etc does work on some builds and not other, later ones. New 2.0 cables, same problem.

The 8.0.1 builds (I tried b though to e to so far) send my amp into a frenzy, like a bad HDMI handshake.. can only lock on and show the menu for 5 secs max.. blank screen for 5 secs.. menu is back for 5 secs, repeat,.. moves dont play either: black screen. As if loose HDMI cable but its not loose. I've reverted to 8.0.0g for now which doesn't exhibit any of these issues, on my setup. More testing later... will try bypassing amp...

Mini MX is 1Gbit lan not 100Mbit? So try gxbb_p200_2G_1Gbit.dtb ?

Lets not forget that it is already a "known issue" that was recently added to OP:

    • fractional frame rates are not fully working (frame jumps)

I think I misread the beta5b changelog, thinking this was "fixed", but thats another issue that is referred to ("removed waiting for a key frame in Amlogic decoder to fix some unplayable samples"). Whoops!
