Update from 7.0.2 to 8.0.2 - not enough space

hi

i have a raspi2 with libreelec 7.0.2 - i had to free some space to put the 8.0.2 update file in the samba update folder. on the update screen it says not enough space to unpack the 8.0.2 gzip althoug there should be 10gb of free space. any ideas? thanks.

did you upgrade before from openelec ?

no i have a 16gb card - i meant version 8.0.2. i try to update from 7.0.2 to 8.0.2.

Yes this is likely the problem, OpenELEC used in the past a too small partition for the current image, if you just updated -> updated -> ... these partition is still the same.

Easiest way to fix it -> create an backup LE via LE Settings Addon (save all your data you might have at other places).

Do a fresh install, restore LE Backup via LE Settings Addon.

You can also move with gparted the partitions - but this takes a lot time and you have to know what you are doing

So... to resize storage to fill the SD you need to:

you could also add an usb stick to your RPi and backup to this stick (hopefully)

The "pleases_resize_me" script resizes /storage on first boot to fill the available space. It should never be used on an existing installation and it does not resize the /flash boot partition which is the one that's too small.

thanks chewitt - yep it is prevented in fact - it just says something like "already initialized - resizing not supported"

i had to do a clean install of 8.1.1 and reconfigure everything - i'm a bit disappointed but whatever. i'm even more disappointed now that my hifiberry, which was running perfectly on the migration from openelec to 7.0.2 now seems not supported anymore?

HiFiBerry still not supported in 8.1.1?

HiFiBerry cards have been supported for aeons. The only known problem is PEBKAC.
