Installation issues

  • Hi! I am very new to LE, however, I have used Kodi since the "Babylon"-days, and lately OpenElec releases. Just had LE installed on one computer (AMD chipset) yesterday, which works flawlessly. But when I tried to install LE on my other computer, a newer with Intel N3050I-C Motherboard i got stuck right away, and I really hope that you guys can help me out here.

As soon as I boot from my bootable usb-drive, the TV goes blank, no output signal from the computer. Since I have installed Openelec a numerous of times I knew what to press to get it installed. I managed to install LE, but still no picture. I was able to access the computer from another windows computer. I rebooted a couple of times and eventually got a signal from my computer, surprisingly. Without further ado I activated SSH in case of future issues. Good thing, because I was not able to keep the signal next time.

So, the situation is like this. I have installed LE on my Intel-based HTPC, but I get no video signal (HDMI) from the computer. I tried this excellent guide on How to configure a xorg.config but still no luck. I guess that this is not an unusual problem, but I feel that I am at the end of the road here, and would really like some suggestions, ideas or just some pep-talk.

I am not able to analyze the log files, but if you have any question I can look for it.

I found this in the KODI log file though. It seems like my device (3) is present, it is just a matter of make LE to chose this:

We prefer not to have log files pasted inside the forum, but rather use LE's built-in pastebin support.

FYI: How to provide a log file

Also, please always upload full log files, not just the part(s) that you think are interesting. Enable the debugging option as well, preferably.

The Asrock N3xxx boxes have been tested (and developed on) thoroughly, possible that Asus is using some other form of hardware setup. Still it's odd that video output is a problem. Xorg.conf files should not be necessary unless you have some weird/odd TV and/or AVR setup.

If you could also provide, via SSH, a dmesg listing, then we at least have some basics.

    Code
    dmesg | pastebinit
  • Hi Klojum!
Okay, Im sorry, I just wanted to make less hassle for you guys and just provide little info, but I do understand that you want to keep such info out from the forum, also that more information are needed to back check.

Anyway, I followed the process and got a logfile. The funny (and frustrating!!) thing is, I now get output signal from the computer. This when everything is working:
    JOPT

So, I rebooted the machine, trying to force the error, more or less. Of course it didn't work with the next reboot, so here is the logfile for that run:
    cOOC

I really hope that there are some kind of delta between these two files.

Also, here is a dmesg for the last run (when I didn't get any output signal from the GPU)
    BhRM

Thank you so much for responding!

  • I'm adding some information/observations:
I started my computer this morning (have been switched off since yesterday evening). Now it worked again, tried to reboot and it does not work again.
I have managed to get it to work three times. These three times has one obviuos thing in common, the computer has been off for a greater period of time (at least 6 hours) before it was switched on. However, when I am rebooting or starting the computer when it recently has been switched on, it does not work properly. Is it some kind of memory issue? I have never ever experienced this with for instance, Openelec though!

Any suggestion would be most appreciated!

  • Can't help but an idea to test.
Power off, disconnect power cord, press power button for 5 ish seconds to drain residual power.
Reconnect power cord and start the PC.
    Does that start correctly?
if so, maybe power supply problem.

    Just after guess. Good luck.

HI vbat99, thank you for your response. For the moment, I am grateful for every idea. I tried this but unfortunately no luck, I get the same behavior. Maybe it is a good thing though.

  • Damn, I have the same issues with OpenElec that is based on Jarvis, no video signal. Before i tried OE i ran xrandr in for LE:
"HDMI-1 connected" along with a lots of resolutions was returned from putty.

Anyway, this is not LE-related, it is related to Jarvis in some way. Nevertheless, it would be really awesome to overcome these issues, I dont want to be stuck on Isengaard.

    Please, any dev, any ideas?
