SD card boot off NUC6CAYS

  • Hello.

I have NUC6CAYS with a 32GB sdcard I planned on using as a boot device.

No matter what I do - it won't boot.

I tried creating the sdcard directly from my mac with the creator, I get the install/run/live prompt but then I get this:

    *** Error in mount_flash: mount_cmmon: could not mount LABEL=System ***

And then it jumps to debugging shell.

I then created a USB, booted off the USB and installed the sdcard from the USB installer (USB booted fine). But the same message appears (above message is from the USB installation on the sdcard).

It looks like it cannot see the root partition for some reason.

Before I start digging like mad or even buying an SSD to get it over with - Is there a known fix for this?

    Edit:

Using latest (8.0.2) version. Updated nuc bios to the latest (40) version.

I do not see /dev/mmc* when booting off sdcard (which is probably the reason for this whole problem), booting off USB did show /dev/mmcblk0 (or whichever it was)

    Thanks.

There have been some issues with big SD cards (32+ GB) in the past, but I thought they were behind us.

Can you perhaps try a smaller sized SD card instead, just for testing purposes?

  • There is a thread with a similar issue.

After booting off USB and inserting a SD card please execute:

    (dmesg;lsmod;lspci;lsusb)|pastebinit

    and post the resulting URL.
