Wetek Play 2 or Ordroid C2

  • I'm contemplating upgrading my now old Apple TV gen 1 running Crystalbuntu to something abit more powerful and more modern so looking at either the Wetek Play 2 or the Ordroid C2.

My only requirements are the following:

    • Reliable streaming from gigabit lan network where 1080p movies are stored on an Synology Server.
    • Connection to a THX, DD * DTS 6.1 amp via optical (Does not have HDMI)
    • 4k compatibility is a plus

I see that 'The Hifi Shield 2' is available for the Ordroid C2 but according to reports this will not passthrough a 5.1 signal via optical through LibreElec. Is this correct still?

If any better options out there, then please let me know.

    Look forward to your opinions

  • Similar situation to you but I sent back my Play 2, that I couldn't get to work at all, and have just ordered an Odroid C2 but will add a cheap HDMI -> SPDIF splitter from Amazon (this won't work with 4K stuff though but figured by then I'll probably have a better amp/TV). I'm hoping this will work better until the Kaby Lake stuff is a bit more readily available and the software catches up

  • What didn't work with the Play 2 ShinyAndy?

I have used this Hdmi to SPDIF adaptors to great success on a Pi so that is an option with a Odroid C2. Something like this:

    AGPtek® HDMI to HDMI + SPDIF + RCA L: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

Will check out the Minux U1

9800pro - Do you use SPDIF with the Minix U1?

How long have you had the Minix and how reliable has it been running LibreElec?

  • Android was laggy and Kodi/WePlayer/SPMC wasn't great under it so tried to install every known LE/fork build directly to SD and couldn't really get any of them to work properly. Boot loops, A/V sync issues, pops & clicks over HDMI, wouldn't sync my library, kept completely freezing, key mapping issues on the remote and the remote itself is plain dreadful. There may well have been something wrong with it but I generally found the whole experience unpleasant and not what I was hoping! I understand the Raybuntu build is almost there now but I'd given up the will to live by that point and sent it back.

SPDIF adaptor looks the same type of thing I was looking at: Neoteck HDMI Audio Extractor HDMI to Optical Spdif: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics good to know it works on the Pi at least

  • I have received my Minix NEO U1 today and before I install libreElec on the eMMC i was wondering if i could back it up, just in case I encounter problems and have to send the box back for repair?
