Apple IR Remote (atvclient) not working in v7.90.010 ALPHA

  • Running on Macmini. I upgraded from 7.0.2 to the new v7.90.010 ALPHA.
However now my Apple Remote (IR) does no longer work.
Does anybody know how to fix this?
It always worked out of the box.

  • Same problem is described here ==> LibreELEC
    but no soliution yet

While testing I noticed it isn't a hardware issue:

    If I stop the atvclient.service :

    Code
    1. systemctl stop atvclient.service

And run atvclient from the cli :

    Code
    1. atvclient

Then I can see the all the commands being send form the IR remote:

    Sending button 01
    Up
    Sending button 01
    Sending button 04
    Right
    Sending button 04
    Sending button 02
    Down
    Sending button 02
    Sending button 03
    Left
    Sending button 03
    Sending button 05
    Play/pause
    Sending button 06
    Menu
    Sending button 05
    Play/pause

However with LibreELEC started normally i cannot control the UI with the Apple IR remote.
What can I do to fix this?
    Any help is much appreciated.

  • Yes the atvclient and my apple remote are working now with Krypton :)
Thanks very much Chewitt for the fix.

By the way, I was kind of hoping with the new kernel update (4.9) that wakeup from suspend (using the apple remote) would be working again (after it was broken since OE 6), however it is not.

  • Fix is merged and will appear in next release. I'll mention the wakeup issue to others .. it's not part of the OS that I understand.

Yes would be great if you could ask arround for the wakeup issue.
When my Macmini is in standby and I press the apple remote then I notice that the little white light on the front stops blinking and turns on, but my screen stays blank and the device is stuck/frozen (also connecting with ssh is then not possible anymore).
It worked perfectly fine with OE 5, so I assume it is not a hardware issue.

    Thanks.

  • I am using a Mac Mini 2011 and try to get the built-in IR receiver up and working, see here: LibreELEC

Unfortunally I do not see any devices the system should create when starting up.

I will try the test build from chewitt in the evening and will give feedback here.

Please test LibreELEC-Generic.x86_64-7.90.010.tar which contains an updated version of atvclient and report back here with results. I no longer test this package with AppleTVs so it got missed in the move to Krypton.

Unfortunally I cannot download the test build. :-( Did you remove it?

  • I removed the build after jcdammers confirmed the fix. The 7.95.1 beta will ship with the fix (soon-ish)

Ok thank you. Then I will wait for the new beta and keep you all posted here in this thread.

Could not make the IR port on my Mac mini work with 7.95.1.

I had to go back to 7.x versions. This was supposed to be fixed, so I guess there's still a lingering problem?

Or do I need to install from scratch Libreleec?

  • Installed LE 8.0.1 on my Macmini and atvclient and apple ir remote still works fine for me :-)

I also solved my wakeup from suspend issue (see above) by adding the following line to the /storage/.config/autostart.sh

    Code
    1. echo 1 > /sys/power/pm_async

Keep up the good work LE team!!
