Dolby Vision Hardware

  • I found a new one:

    GEEKOM A5 Pro
    • AMD Ryzen 5 7430U Prozessor
    • 16 GB DDR4 RAM

same price like the Core Ultra 5 125H. (seller has stopped responding me)

How should the suitability or graphics performance be evaluated?

Do CroqueMr and LibreELEC-Hades have the same hardware requirements?

I don’t even know which version I should choose.

  • I don't think we have the same hardware requirement. For my build a recommand 3500U/R2254 or above. 7430U is perfectly fine.

And I have a 7430U on my test bench it handles properly everything.

even mentions Kodi, I'm still holding out for 11.11, might get full system for $140. like to see how much K12 goes for to

  • Be careful It's a barebone mini pc without ram & ssd.

yeah thanks, I forgot to mention that. this is why I'm hopeful come 11.11, we'll get a complete system for $140.
also on ebay look for 2 x 4GB DDR4, can be had for £21 which takes it to £109, storage you might already have or pay another £15

  • I wrote this in kodi forums

I'm curious so did some research, the Intel Core i5-1235U features 8 efficiency cores (E-cores) alongside 2 performance cores (P-cores). base clock 1.3 GHz
It's GPU is 25% more powerful as the 3500U iGPU. it's one process node ahead of 3500U. with twice single core speed
It's very common in used laptops in Ebay and has native HDMI I believe? It's market price is around £80 if you check sold.

Here is just a quick example
    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/307117791029

to get full GPU out of this, you need to add another 8GB RAM, add a charger, and we are around £120 ($165)
Then disconnect the screen and battery, touchpad and keyboard. remove the battery. flip it upside down while keeping the chassis,

the motherboard on this model is a good shape, you could if you have the tools and the skill create a custom case for this. or just go the lazy route like I've mentioned. Cooling wise it probably is quieter than a miniPC running 3500U because of e cores and better process plus just more space in the laptop with the heat pipes more distance away from SOC.
what are your thoughts, on using used laptops with this SOC?

    ____________________________________________________________

this might not be a bad way to get this. this is far better than 3500U at cheaper. it's more like a 5500U probably

  • Hello folks. I'd rather not dublicate the thread so i found this existing topic and ask my question here.

I am also somewhat interested in this option.

I wont have a separate PC for this, i would rather load libreelec from my main PC using bootable SSD with USB adapter.

My discrete nvidia rtx 4000 series GPU is connected to TV directly, i also have iGPU within 9800x3d CPU and i already use motherboard HDMI to output sound to my AVR.

I saw RDNA 2 being listed as supported, Ryzen 9800x3d iGPU is based on RDNA 2.

Would iGPU of Ryzen 9800x3d be good enough to handle Dolby Vision Master Reference, and also "reference" conversion to HDR10\HDR10+ ?

The PC has 2x24 of DDR5 installed at 6200 mt and tuned timings, how much RAM should i set in BIOS for iGPU if i want this to work without stutters, frame skips and out memory errors, but also not take too much RAM from main windows 11 boot? The minimum that can be set is 512 mb - too little?

I also imagine this will be tasking on iGPU, but there is little reason to worry about heat and noise since entire PC is water cooled.

    Thank you.

  • A 3200U with 8gb of DDR4 single channel at 3200mhz, with a lower iGPU and far weaker CPU handle the master reference pipeline perfectly. even at 60fps with gemini man for example

The only limitation are for conversion/enhancement pipeline >30fps.

DV to HDR10+ is not working as intended it will be fixed shortly, but conversion to HDR10 is very good and stable

I think you should not have any issue with your CPU, even if the iGPU is not very powerful. Also I will try to rebuild and optimize deeply the conversion pipeline after the stable release next month, it should help a the small iGPU.

  • DV to HDR10+ is not working as intended it will be fixed shortly, but conversion to HDR10 is very good and stable

As of now i have LG OLED with tv led DV, but i plan to get Samsung in 2027 so thats why i am asking.

Also, current solutions such as am6b+ (which i own) already provide DV to HDR10 conversion with FEL, what would be the benefit of converting to HDR10+ using your method? Is this similar to LLDV with CM 4.0 that exist on recent avdvplus?

What do you think about the amount of memory that needs to be set for iGPU, like, to handle the most hardware intensive remux with FEL and HDR10\10+ conversion? Thank you.

Exactly, In my build, DV to HDR10 Expert is designed to deliver something close to what you get with an AVDVplus. That's the whole objective.

The algorithm is already really clean, and Expert mode can run at 30fps on a low-end CPU. But keep in mind, this is one of the most GPU demanding pipelines.

I could push it even further with true Master Reference LLDV rendered as HDR10. I'm not sure the visual improvement over the current Expert mode would be that significant, though, and it would require MUCH more GPU power or massive optimizations.

I might take on that challenge after the stable release, but I'd recommend waiting until you upgrade your TV. By then, we'll have a better idea of the mini PC requirements.

As for HDR10+, it should deliver similare result as LLDV over HDR10, but in a more user-friendly way: no manual display settings, and likely lower GPU requirements.

Sure. I dont need it for LG, As of now i might just use it as tv led source.

Just to see how it runs compared to am6b+. How much snappier UI will be an all that.

If 9800x3d will end up working well, i will be happy to get rid of the extra device. I'd be a happier person if i could just use a single PC for everything, even if it needs to be rebooted into libreelec to watch a movie.

My question about RAM pool for iGPU still stands unanswered though :(

How much should i dedicate from 48 gb of DDR5 to be used as video memory? Whatever ammount i set in BIOS will be unavailbale in main Windows 11 boot. I'd like to use as little as possible, but i imagine 512 mb wont be enough, so 1 gb? 2 gb? :/

RAM is not a bottleneck don't worry about that. a 3200U with single channel and standard DDR4 bandwith is sufficient.

Edit I did not saw your question properly : I recommand 4gb to be confortable and safe

  • okay I think I found the best box and a stupid deal

    Firebat F1 Mini
    Bundle: 24GB RAM 512GB SSD

after $60 discount on 1st November you get this for $291.26, RIDICULOUS PRICE.

The 24GB is LPDDR5 quad (similar to DDR5 dual channel). I was promoting the GMKtek k12, which has a faster GPU but the prices for DDR5 RAM are like $100 for 8GB so I was only going to use a single channel. this 24GB dual channel is far superior in terms of actual performance because it's not chocking the GPU. it's also LPDDR5 so it's lower power RAM, the CPU is slightly faster than the K12 also!

here is a review of it but in russian

Обзор мини-ПК Firebat F1: работа над ошибками или даунгрейд?
Крепкий середнячок на повседнев. Примерно так ощущается мини-ПК Firebat F1. Есть за что похвалить, есть за что поругать. Но в...

    key take aways

    1. The Soldered LPDDR5 Performance (The "Quad-Channel" Boost)
The reviewer ran AIDA64 and verified that the memory is indeed soldered LPDDR5 operating in four-channel sub-mode (which functions as standard dual-channel).
Review Data: The memory benchmark pulled ~92.5 GB/s write speeds.
What this means for you: This confirms that the Firebat F1 completely avoids the memory bandwidth choke of a single stick. That ~92 GB/s pipeline is exactly what the Radeon 760M needs to handle complex rendering, dual-layer FEL files, and AI dynamic tone mapping effortlessly.

    2. Cooling Architecture & Thermal Mass
The review highlights the internal structural layout of the machine:
Airflow intake: The review notes that the cooling fan pulls cool air directly from the bottom mesh intake and exhausts it out the side.
What this means for you: You must not place this mini PC directly on a thick rug or inside a completely closed cabinet where the bottom rubber feet sink. If you keep the bottom clearance open, this cooling setup is massive overkill for a 15W capped profile. It will run cool and remain completely silent in your media room.

    3. Power Supply (Over-spec Efficiency)
The reviewer noted that the device ships with a beefy 120W power adapter (19V / 6.32A), stating that the CPU draws significantly less than what the power brick is capable of delivering.
What this means for you: When you use ryzenadj to restrict the processor to 15W, the total system wall draw will likely hover around 22–25W total. Because a 120W power supply is running at less than 25% capacity, the power brick itself will remain cool, operate efficiently, and easily absorb any brief system spikes without breaking a sweat.

    4. The Real-World Verdict (The "Middle-Tier" Advantage)
The reviewer summarizes the Firebat F1 as a "solid middle-of-the-road worker". It doesn't break world records, but it lacks major system flaws.
The only true complaints in the article are the uninspiring speeds of the factory 512GB SSD (~2400 MB/s) and the lack of a secondary front Type-C port. For a dedicated LibreELEC boot box, SSD sequential read speeds don't matter at all—Kodi reads media file streams at a maximum of ~15–20 MB/s (150 Mbps for high-bitrate 4K remuxes).

    Final Thoughts
This teardown confirms the Firebat F1 is an excellent candidate for your project. The dual-channel memory bandwidth is real, the cooling assembly is sturdy, and the hardware handles media tasks elegantly.

for our use case, this is way better and cheaper than the K12, to get 16GB of DDR5 in K12 will cost you $200 by itself!
you have to make sure you stay up the time when coupons are released, each day they allocate only certain amount, then restart the next day. once added, they remain in basket till expire (full month). Damn what a machine for $291.

  • Damn should have checked. On the same link I posted I thought it was greyed out on the other option, it wasn't, I just had to change to 16GB (LDDR5)

    Screenshot-2026-10-31-083909.png

you get only 16GB, you probably only need 4GB for LibreELEC. the SOC is far more capable Ryzen 7 H255. it's like TOTAL COST $307.74 (after $60 discount), you guys might have cashback sites.
I just checked and it says only 1 left, though not sure if they mean it. this is a better device but the other one was overkill also. so pick this if stocks else pick other

I received it without any problems. It works well and the power cord is of the Korean type. Windows 11 Pro is installed and has been authenticated. The RAM consists of four 4GB Samsung RAM modules. M.2 SSD is 512GB with 3.0.

The Ryzen 7 H255 is 122% faster in single-core CPU speed and roughly 300% faster in GPU performance than the Ryzen 5 3500U. (assuming single DDR4 for 3500U system)
