[x86-64] Sound Problems since LE 12.0.1

  • Hi everybody,

I'm running LibreELEC 12.0.0 (the generic legacy x86_64 Image) for a long time at an older Zotac ZBox without any problems. The Box is connected via HDMI to a Yamaha 5.1 Receiver.

After an Upgrade to 12.0.1 or 12.0.2 it comes to strange sound issues.. no matter if navigating in the UI and so hearing the system sounds or play arbitary audio / video content, audio stuttering every few seconds. When looking at the mentioned Yamaha Receiver one can see the speaker symbols are flickering every few seconds as if the sound subsystem re-initializes again and again.
I played around with the kodi audio system settings but nothing helped, I even resetted Kodi/LibreELEC to defaults without success either.
A Debug Log from this resetted Kodi after a reboot can be found here:
    https://paste.libreelec.tv/wise-treefrog.log

After downgrading to LibreELEC 12.0.0 the problem is immediatly gone, sound works fine as before.

    Does anyone have an idea?
    Thx in advance

  • Seems like your Mini PC uses DisplayPort protocol internally:

    Code
         Device 4
             m_deviceName : hdmi:CARD=PCH,DEV=0
             m_displayName : HDA Intel PCH
m_displayNameExtra: SAM SAMSUNG on DisplayPort #0
             m_deviceType : AE_DEVTYPE_HDMI
m_channels : FL, FR, LFE, FC, BL, BR, BC, BLOC, BROC
             m_sampleRates : 32000,44100,48000,88200,96000,176400,192000
             m_dataFormats : AE_FMT_RAW,AE_FMT_S32NE,AE_FMT_S16NE,AE_FMT_S16LE,AE_FMT_RAW
             m_streamTypes : STREAM_TYPE_AC3,STREAM_TYPE_DTSHD,STREAM_TYPE_DTSHD_MA,STREAM_TYPE_DTSHD_CORE,STREAM_TYPE_DTS_1024,STREAM_TYPE_DTS_2048,STREAM_TYPE_DTS_512,STREAM_TYPE_EAC3,STREAM_TYPE_TRUEHD

It's very likely a DisplayPort issue, which we can't solve. The log looks good (no audio errors).

    • Make sure your graphics card driver is up-to-date (might requires Windows). Those drivers also manage DisplayPort.
    • In case your graphics card driver is up-to-date, but the issue persists, use S/PDIF for audio.
