[x86-64] Chrome Browser on Dell Wyse 3040

  • I have a Dell wyse 3040 and am trying to get legacy generic nightly build to run on it, the non-legacy generic and generic nightly install and run just fine, however on installing and trying to boot the legacy generic image be it nightly or stable, past the logo, it only boots into a black screen with a cursor flickering in the middle of the screen.

I have installed on a external USB HDD and not on the flash memory of the thin client as it's considered prone to failure after a few writes.

On trying to boot the same USB HDD on a chromebook (lenovo ideapad 3) with a custom bios, is runs into an error saying xorg cannot start and asks to confirm whether my gpu is supported or not, there is some error message after that but I ignored since I do not plan on running it on my chromebook anyways.

  • Chrome is only available on Generic-legacy, because it needs X11 as display server.

I would assume he knows that since he tried to boot Legacy.

basubasu see if adding something like video=HDMI-A-1:1920x1080M@60 to kernel boot params in syslinux.cfg has impact. If not, add ssh to boot params so you can login over Ethernet to run "pastekodi" and share the log URL generated. The rest of the OS will be functional even if Kodi/Xorg has an issue with something.

  • When testing LE13 Generic-Legacy a few weeks ago Kodi failed to start on Intel HW (while Simple Terminal (st) and Chrome were working).

No issues with AMD and vmware graphics driver.

Expected a magic fix by e.g. Mesa or Kernel bump but seems still to be an issue.
