New TV (4k) and problems withs getedid

  • Hi all,

today i received my new 4k TV. My old one is Full HD.

    I have a Pi 5 and a Denon X 4800H which are connected via

Pi 5 --> Denon HDMI IN --> Denon HDMI Out --> TV

On this way i got just 1080p in my possible resolutions.

I delete the edid via "getedid delete" and reboot the PI. Nothing has changed.

So, i connect the TV directly to my PI and i got 4k resolutions.

I create the edid file via "getedid create" and save it to my laptop.

How can i set it, that this new edid will always load? It will be overwritten if i go back to PI 5 --> Denon AVR --> TV

    The generated file is under:

    /storage/.config/firmware/edid/edid-HDMI-A-1.bin

    Thanks ins advance

Nothing should change. The RPi5 should continue using 1080p desktop resolution; this is the default and best setting. You should now be able to go into Kodi video settings and add 3840x2160 resolutions to the mode whitelist so that Kodi can use them for 4K playback. See https://wiki.libreelec.tv/configuration/4k-hdr for more info.

I would remove the getedid stuff unless you plan to boot the RPi5 with the AVR disconnected, it's not really needed.

    Hi chewitt

    Thanks for your reply.

I know the Wiki Link and i fully agree. GUI should be 1080p, i would like to set resolutions in the whistelist.

    But i cant!

Pls look at the screenshots. With AVR i cant set 2160p, direct connect from PI to TV i can set it.

How can i force the whitelist resolutions?

  • Using "getedid create" will capture the 4K modes, but I think the AVR will fail to pass a 4K HDMI signal even if you try to force it that way - this stuff should "just work" without forcing. I think you need to experiment with connecting the AVR to other HDMI ports on the TV and/or connecting the RPi5 to other ports on the AVR. It is common for HDMI ports to have different capabilities and perhaps one side is set for "PC" mode or such? - the list of resolutions reminds me of standard vesa modes for that kind of use.

All HDMI Ports are full. I have a Denon X4800H from 2024 and he has 8k Support.

Following case is working (until reboot!)

    - Pi direct connect to TV (4k recognize)

    - Switch HDMI Cabels to Pi --> Denon AVR HDMI IN --> Denon HDMI Monitor 1 OUT --> TV

    WORKS until REBOOT

Why is it not possible to generate an edid file and force this edid if the PI is booting?

    What im doing wrong?

Pi to tv and earc for sound from tv to avr?

Hm, maybe a way but i have hyperion and that will be lose in this case.

  • Wasn't there some fixes in the nightly builds released after 12.0.1 regarding some issues in conjunction with DENON AVRs?

JohnWayne111 , which version of LE do you have installed? Already tried with a recent nightly build for a cross check?
