HD music server

  • I have a library of dsd and wav, some flac lossless..

I am looking for a distro to serve these files to a Gustard R26 via ethernet.

    Is this a viable candidate?

Can anyone post a link to configure something like that?

I also have a tidal and a qobuz subscription and wouldn’t mind being able to login and stream from those to the dac.

    Possible with libreelec?

Thank you. (Yes, I am trying to find answers in docs)

  • Kodi is a player app running on video output hardware connected to your TV. If the video output hardware can connect to the DAC over USB then Kodi should be able to see/select the DAC as the audio output device. Kodi is not an audio server/streaming app so it will not be able to send/stream audio to the DAC over Ethernet.

There appears to be a Tidal add-on for Kodi https://github.com/arnesongit/plugin.audio.tidal2 but have never used it. The support thread in the Kodi forums appears to be active https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=200555

There was a Qobuz add-on but it appears there were changes to the service that broke it and the add-on doesn't appear to have been updated since, see https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=146568 and https://github.com/tidalf/plugin.audio.qobuz

  • An Amazon Fire TV Cube (2nd or 3rd Gen) supports my audiophile obsession just fine. I subscribe to Amazon Music Unlimited through my Prime account for $8 a month. The cube supports 24bit, 192kHz. Amazon has both HD and UHD Audio files ready for streaming. I use Pandora and Spotify (free accounts) to discover new music and then add the highest quality files using Amazon Music Unlimited to my Custom Playlists. The Fire TV Cube has a built-in Alexa Voice Controller, which can also control your TV & AVR's power and navigation to the Cube's GUI. It takes a little getting used to but for the price, it's amazing. I have a large collection of SACD ISO's and to tell you the truth, the only benefit I see with them is the occasional multi-track recording. I'm over 70, so my ears may not be able to hear what I did years ago. Good Luck
