Why upgrade?

  • I'm running 8.2.5 on a standard PC. Remote, hdmi, etc. I've upgraded in the past but always had issues with network tools (lftp dog slow). So always downgraded.

I get that new versions support new hardware, etc. But does it benefit me in anyway?

Sorry if this sounds like a silly question. I always like latest and greatest. Just wondering if I'm not running latest hardware if worth upgrading.

  • If you're not experiencing any problems and 8.2.5 is doing what you want it to do, then why even consider updating ? Then again, if you want to take a test drive, I would recommend installing a different hard drive if you have a spare. If it doesn't work out, just swap back.

It depends on what you use Kodi for. The main driver for upgrades is often the add-on ecosystem; at some point add-on devs stop supporting Javis with updates and then you're forced to bump. If you're not motivated by add-ons the old saying "if it works, don't fix it" always applies :)
