Until now, it's the best way ( and the only always working" to have Netflix and Amazon , via browser, on Libreelec-Kodi.

    Hope it will be ported

It's unlikely. If that's something you depend on I would suggest dual booting or looking into using Kodi with netflix and amazon

  • I think it would be a mistake not to add Chrome to LE10, the Netflix and Amazon add-ons are far to unstable, sometimes they work most the times they dont. Besides it always nice to be able to web browse on the TV from time time I use Chrome on LE9 a lot that will be the only deal-breaker for me upgrading.

The chrome browser will likely be dropped if LibreELEC moves to using GBM for the Generic builds in the future, so I wouldn't count on it.

  • daniber58 / the_mouse - chrome is still an addon in LE10 (unfortunately it is not compiling cleanly) the area of issue is gtk3. I would be happy to assist someone keen to fix that issue, then chrome may come to life again - in LE10.

But as lrusak says, once GBM comes to LE (maybe LE11) then it will drop off again.

  • I am no developer so not sure how I can help with that unfortunately.

Am I right in thinking that the switch to GBM is switching to wayland or will kodi be acting as its own display server? Otherwise with chrome supporting wayland would that not work?

No, Kodi will render directly to the framebuffer with no windowing system. It's effectively the same arrangement we use with ARM devices. The lack of window system is the blocker. We could also run Kodi under Wayland, but then you have no "adjust refresh" support and there'd be an angry mob of pitch-fork waving villagers complaining about that :)

  • I did wonder if that was the case, is a shame as having a functioning browser really is useful and as mentioned all the netflix and amazon addons are not reliable. But I can definitely see the advantages of rendering directly without a windowing system.

  • this is fixed as soon kodi has the build in browser :)

early early proof of concept exist for 4years or so - but sadly very unfinished

Oh wow I did not know such a thing was even on the table that would be awesome sad it was never finished

  • My test system on Acer 255 netbook can't wait to check it....Until now, LE10 is working like a breeze on everything else... ;)

  • Wow awesome as soon as its live I will updating thats all I am waiting for Thanks to everyone involved!

Just a quick question, on compiling the app is it possible to turn off chrome auto update checking it gets annoying and I dont see anywhere to disable it on the preferences

Edited once, last by the_mouse ().

  • I know that's quite a "newbie" question..but..where's the new LE10 Chrome add-on available ? Don't see it into Libreelec repository, and from Github forum, looks like to be installed downloading from there ( :mk ? Docker ? )

Not the usual way for official add-ons ?
