Protocol "https" is unknown

  • Hi,

I'm running the USB-SD Creator on a Lubuntu 18.04 machine. My destination machine for LibreElec is an old Acer Atom-powered miniPC with Nvidia ION graphics. It's kind of an experiment. I'll probably end up buying a pi, but I like to reuse old stuff if I can. Reduce, reuse, recycle and all that.

    I've selected

    1) Generic AMD/Intel/Nvidia and it's displayed the target package to download. All good.

    2) my downloads target folder.

However, it's displaying the error message 'Protocol "https" is unknown'

I feel I'm missing something, but I can't think what to do. I've put the error message into the search for these forums and it came up on autofill, so someone must have had this problem before now, but the search returned no results.

    I'd be grateful for advice.

    UPDATE

I've managed to download the relevant file from here: libreelec-generic.x86_64-9.1.501.img.gz

There is a discussion of the issue here: Please enable HTTPS for downloads by default

I have a certain amount of familiarity with command line work and searching things out, but for an utter newby this would be a showstopper. It might be worth looking at this. In the meantime, if you're hitting this snag, I suggest doing a web search for the version that the USB-SD creator recommends and looking for an img.gz file, downloading it to your computer and then choosing the "Select file" option in section 2 of the process.
