recommendations for usb dac?

  • I'm running a pi 3b+, libreelec 9.0.2.. It works perfectly for what I need.. so I wont be updating. My sound is crap coming out of the pi.. low volume and horrible noise in the background. I hear using a usb sound card is a reliable fix... but I cannot find what usb sound cards are supported... Anyone got a usb 2 channel sound card with 3.5mm output they can recommend?

    Thanks

  • I'e considered it.. Its an in car installation though, so limited space .

Edit - screw it.. Just grabbed a powered hdmi to rca converter.. Had 4 star review so this should work just fine (and actually cuts out 1 barrel connector I THINK I have enough room for it.. it's almost as big as the pi itself

  • In general it's best to avoid USB DACs on RPi0-3, the USB controller isn't too great and we are still seeing occasional reports of crackling audio etc.

If you want something small and well supported then use one of the plenty I2S audio cards / hats. eg pHAT DAC, Hifiberry, Justboom or IQaudio.

    so long,
