This all using default/vanilla settings, just add the shares in Kodi 'add source'.

The "server" is you Windows 10 that's the samba versión thats mater. Kodi is just a client like Libreelec.

FYI (I stumbled across this thread a bit late) - I've looked into this question in the past. In particular, support for the SMB v1 protocol in Windows is optional, and I happened to have disabled that (and many other optional Windows features) a long time ago, so it took me a while to figure out why I couldn't get file sharing to work. Not depending on an optional/legacy Windows feature is IMO the biggest motivation to switch to SMB v2.

I spent a little time playing with the changes needed on the Kodi side but didn't get that finished.

samba 3.6 supports only smb2 as a server, not as a client. for this 4.0+ is needed

I believe Milhouse have been including it in his builds for a while. I gave the backported Krypton PR a shot in my build and was able to connect directly to shares with SMB2 through Kodi, but browsing didn't work.
