How to integrate driver for Geniatech DVB-T2 stick into LibreElec?

  • Hello forum,

I haven an Odroid C2 and ~1 year ago I followed the instruction of Melibokus to set up a PVR for German DVB-T2. As recommended, I installed LibreELEC-Odroid_C2.arm-8.0.WRX-RB-Media_build.01.img.gz to get my DVB-T2 stick working (Geniatech T230C).

    It worked for 1 year.

Recently I updated to LibreELEC-Odroid_C2.aarch64-8.2.5.img.gz. The system is booting and basically working, all addons are updated. But I still receive error messages when I activate TV: "No TV adapter available".

When I check lsusb I receive:

where Bus 001 Device 006: ID 0572:c689 Conexant Systems (Rockwell), Inc. seems to be the DVB-T2 stick.

But when I check the kernel modules, I am not sure, if the relevant module has loaded:

When I log into Tvheadend with my browser (http://libreelec:9981/) I can only see the integrated cable tuners(?) of my Fritzbox:

(but as the cable provider has installed a hardware filter, that blocks all TV frequencies, I can not receive any signals via cable - only DVT-T2)

    My questions:

    1. Is there a kernel issue that prevents my DVB-T2 stick from working or is it something different?
    2. If it is a kernel (driver) issue, how could I solve it?
    3. Or should I go back to LibreELEC-Odroid_C2.arm-8.0.WRX-RB-Media_build.01.img.gz which contains the necessary support for my DVB-T2 stick already?

    Thanks for your help

  • I would try the alpha release 8.90.006 Here as a lot of work has gone into supporting *most* devices.. You'll need to load the DVB drivers after installation by selecting LibreELEC Modules from the home screen and selecting "probably" media_build.

    If you still have issues.

Please provide a full debug log.

How to post a log (wiki)

    1. Enable debugging in Settings>System Settings>Logging
    2. Restart Kodi
    3. Replicate the problem
    4. Generate a log URL (do not post/upload logs to the forum)

use "Settings > LibreELEC > System > Paste system logs" or run "pastekodi" over SSH, then post the URL link
  • Hello and thank you for your support,

I have transferred LibreELEC-Odroid_C2.arm-8.90.006.img.gz to /storage/.update. I have also added .nocompat to the folder. The I rebooted and watched the attached screen (TV). Here is the output:

    Step 1: Upgrade looked ok:

Step 2: Message after reboot: "Starting debugging shell [???] step. mount_storage... type exit to quit"

System stopped here, so I typed "exit".

    Step 3: Debug message:
"mounting /storage on /sysroot/storage failed: Invalid argument"
    "Failed to start machine-id"

    [...]

System does not respond, except to reboot via Ctrl.-Alt.-Del.

No ssh access, only local keyboard and TV-screen ...

Thanks for helping me to understand this situation

  • Thanks, the systems is booting again.

I took me a while, as tune2fs was not available in the "debug shell" (busybox?). So I transferred the binary of tune2fs on a usb pendrive and executed it from there ;)

Then I rebooted a few times and checked, that Addons for Tvheadend Server and Clients are updated.

I finally logged into Tvheadend via LAN but still not DVB-stick is offered (only Fritzbox interfaces).

    Find my Kodi-logfile here: http://ix.io/1nkp

    Find my dmesg-log here: http://ix.io/1nr2

Find the output of lsmod: http://ix.io/1nrv

now, Tvheadend Server does not respond to client vial LAN, but ssh is still working.

    Kodi-log for this situation: http://ix.io/1nxh

    What to do next?

  • Thanks for the hint, but unfortunately I have not enough resources (in time and knowledge) to understand the mentioned process which sounds fairly new to me :/.

So I decided to jump back to my initial installation (which I fully backed up before I tried the upgrade).

Now I am back to where I started and - at least - I can watch and record TV.

One day I may give it another try ;)

  • Hello forum,

compare to my first attempt, a newer build for Odroid C2 is now available: LibreELEC-Odroid_C2.arm-9.0.2.img.gz

Which DVB-T2 sticks are supported with this build now? [I consider to buy a new one]

Is it only the few mentioned in here for Kernel 3.14. or are there more?

How can I find out, or does one of you know?

The DVB stick mentioned here seems very attractive. Is there a way to make it work on Odroid for DVB-T2?

Thanks again for your kind support
