  • Will LibreElec be a better product than OpenElec? Or will it be a matter of preference rather than features? Would like to see how you guys grow.

Id probably say it will be a matter of preferance as for example OSMC is quite different and some people say better than openelec, they both have their good points and weakness and in the end they both run well and its a personal choice and now libreelec comes along. Having tried all three im sticking with libreelec for a while to see how it develops, the real decider for some will probably depend on how long it takes to officially update to the next version once kodi is updated to kypton.

That all depends on what your definition of "better" is. As far as LibreELEC goes, we plan to have more control on the overall quality by doing more testing before a new release comes out, as well as do more releases on a more regular basis. Technically both products will be very similar with only minor differences.

  • OpenELEC and LibreELEC are essentially the same, a very basic and minimal OS to run as media center. During my searches found out that the developers of OE had some sort of disagreement and most left to setup LE.

  • So it turns out to be the same product with a different packaging.

Openelec died as a viable general product and retreated into a cosy little niche.
Libreelec has far surpassed Openeelec and it goes much deeper than simple packaging.
