I have the above nuc, with Leia Alpha & previously Krypton, I used to use wifi, & it seemed pretty solid, mind you it was in the same room as the router, just 2.4 Wifi, with the original pcie card.
I use a Logitech harmony, I choose Intel as the manufacturer, & DN2820FYKH, it works well,
Unplug power adapter...
Push with a toothpick inside AV hole the reset button while plugging again the power adapter and hold it until you'll see the recovery mode..
I selected manual update, checked the Libre 9 channel, & found the update there.
Then updated. No problem

Coreelec doesn't make a intel version of their firmware, so I'll give the latest libreelec beta/alpha a try out.
Did you need to do anything special to get this addon to work?
(As in,did you update Coreelec to 8.95.0 with openvpn already installed or did you update and install afterwards?
I have been using this VPN manager, on two coreelec boxes, S905 & S912, & a Intel NUC with the latest version of Leia, & have no problems at all

One of these might work, saving you the trouble of creating one yourself. My H96 Pro remote looks like yours

but, it would be best to use a different sd.
Perhaps start again, burn the image to a different sdcard, using rufus or similar, then copy the correct dtb file into the root, renaming it to dtb.img
IF that boots, you should see the update folder in the storage folder. I use coreftp lite to copy files over,

If you forgot to use a new device tree or used wrong one and your device doesn't boot:
Download, the old tar file, & old dtb, put them in the update folder & reboot.
Or, download newest image tar file & dtb, & again put them in the update folder & reboot.
As far as I remember, you can update or go back, just by placing a tar file in the update folder, I think you can just put the correct dtb file in, without renaming to dtb.img
I am not sure if this will work, it depends on the Libreelec version you are using

What version of Libreelec do you have? the later versions, use a different remote config file

even though these builds have been discontinued, they were fairly stable,
Basically, download the image, burn to sd card using rufus, then after downloading the correct device tree, based on size of your RAM & LAN speed
you copy the device tree to the root of the sd card, renaming the device tree to dtb.img
then using the pinhole method, reboot, if it boots Libreelec then good, if not try a different device tree, (you can use the same image, just overwrite the device tree)
Of course, you could try Coreelec, which is newer, but Apha or Beta so there are still issues
Pushed 5.0.5 onto the repo which re-introduces support for NordVPN using their API. You can now select which country you want to connect to and it'll do the right thing.
They also have their own branded add-on if you'd prefer to use that and want some friendly support.
