Did you have any luck to boot your H96 Max+ by replacing proper u-boot? I also have that device and facing the same issue: not able to boot from SD after third boot process!
Unfortunately, the problem is not in u-boot. The problem is in DTB, which does not work with the build kernel from balbes150
If you have any working system on the SD card that starts normally, you will be able to check the LE. You need to try to replace the u-boot in LE, on the version with a working SD card. You need to perform a few additional steps when preparing an SD card.
With the original u-boot:
1. The system boots,
2. There is a redistribution of the memory card
3. Restart
4. The logo is displayed for a few minutes
Then cyclically repeats step 3, 4.
With changed u-boot - error as in the photo.
I also add a log of TTL

An interesting behavior was detected when loading LE on rk3328\rk3399 from an SD card without using the correct u-boot (the SD card should not have any loader for the rk33xx platform). Please check the launch of the image for nanopi-k2 or odroid-c2 for those who have rk3328\rk3399 TV boxes with regular Android in eMMC. After writing the image to the SD card, you need to configure the dtb in the file (uEnv.txt) for the desired RK model. Do not change anything else and check the launch.

There are some interface issues (when change the source on TV or turn on/off or unplug-plug in HDMI) then the whole image is red filter
And repositories do not work (failed to connect)

1. Remove from working SD card u-boot. This can be done with this command on a Linux PC.
dd if=/dev/<name_you_SD_works_card> of=u-boot-rockpro.img bs=1M count=16
2. Write LE to SD card, configure DTB and replace u-boot with taken from working SD card. U-boot replacement is performed by two commands.
dd if=u-boot-rockpro.img of=/dev/<new_SD_card_LE> conv=fsync bs=1 count=442
dd if=u-boot-rockpro.img of=/dev/<new_SD_card_LE> conv=fsync bs=512 skip=1 seek=1
After that, you can try running LE on RockPro. The last two commands write a working u-boot and save the existing partition table for the system written to the SD card. By the way, in the same way you can replace u-boot for Armbian system and check the start of any image.
