Same (in my case) for my braswell and broadwell Nuc in combination with AVR

Someone on Kodi forum almost 18 months ago said that was an issue caused by AVR (onkyo or Denon) and I found other users with AVR and same issue (something about clock delay due AVR passthrough )

After many months of bad WAF (everytime a blackscreen =force reboot) i read on libreelec forum that a solution was to force gui to 30hz and now I found this thread with same issue and same solution works

So probably is the same bug ?

In my case i have black screen (no i don't lost signal) after peter anvin et al boot message or kodi logo

I forced AVR Edid cause in xorg log there was a mention about hdmi lost signal /disconnected (not exact error but i don't rembember now)

lucky these problem with my avr happens only with kodi (tried a chromebox and nuc with braswell thinking about hardware issue)

You are lucky because with my Denon avr (but other users with onkyo) have this problem also with Kodi 17

This issue finally solved forcing GUI at 30hz.. , found it after almost year of pain just fews days ago

(and probably this solution solved also black screen at boot)

These issues was so frustrating and not WAF that I mapped a remote button for hardware reboot

Movies are played via SMB from a NAS connected via gigabit ethernet, using up to 8GB of RAM as playback cache. the NUC is connected via HDMI to my Samsung J-Series UHD TV, running at 4K@30Hz. Problem occurs at 1920x1080, too.

CPU/gpu doesn't have hw support for x265 (instruction set etc)

And doesn't have enough horse power to decode it via sw

So my i7 860 overclocked is less powerful with hevc than myv braswell htpc

I think your cpu is too weak, also on my haswell chromebox many hevc get stuttering ... now with n3150 cpu hevc same film get 10% of cpu/gpu (hevc 8 bit 1080p)

if i remember correctyl hevc decoder is from braswell cpu

Update 2016-06-30.

It's not the mkv itself. Sometimes, playing the file upto 3-5x times it plays ok.

it may be related to the swicht refreshrate. in combination with the pause to switch which also is not working. It

Any more info can be provided. Perhaps its the type or codec type of the mkv, not sure. The same mkv works some times, some times it does not. it seems not to happen when fps= refreshrate and no switch is required.

it would appear that if the switch takes too long and no canvas is available to render to the screen stays black even if the switch eventually finished. This could also explain why it previously worked, because the pause of 2,5 second still worked.
