Adding 1080p option in kodi? 1080p not available

  • I'm running the newest Libreelec version with krypton on an old laptop, that is connected to my TV via the VGA1.
Previously i had XBMCbuntu installed on the laptop and had kodi running in 1080p. In my current version however, I am not able to set the resolution higher than 1280x800p..
On my previous XBMCbuntu installation, I had to add a new modeline using the xrandr function to get it to work, but now it seems the cvt or gtf commands to add a new modeline are not working anymore..

As my TV is set on 1080p, i only get this smaller window in the top left corner of the screen.
I could work around this by forcing the 1280x800p resolution on the VGA output using:

    Code
    $  xrandr --output VGA1 --mode 1280x800 --rate 60

But of course I would prefer using the full resolution of my TV and being able to set kodi to 1080p.
Any suggestions on what i could try?

    thanks!

As it seems to be your laptop and while looking at the xrandr output, it seems, that both displays are active (internal and external). The internal has a max resolution of 1280*800. That is, what you also see on your Screen, as the internal display is "duplicated" to the external now. Kodi has an option which is called "Blank other displays". Please enable that and probably you need to use the FN-keys to properly disable the internal display and switch completely to the external one.

For a test you could try:

    Code
    xrandr --ouptut LVDS1 --off

    and

    Code
    xrandr --output VGA1 --mode 1920x1080

I had the same issue. What I did was installing openelec, and once it was installed update to libreelec.

Please either supply full details, or refrain from 'witty' solutions.
Frankly, going from LibreELEC to OpenELEC to LibreELEC without making xorg.conf changes makes no sense at all to me.

I didn´t go from LibreELEC to OpenELEC to LibreELEC. It was just from OpenELEC to LibreELEC, I made a new clean install of OpenELEC once I gave up from finding a solution.
Sorry but I don`t know how to make changes in xorg.conf, neither which changes should I do.

This is the xrandr after a clean install of LibreELEC

I have enabled "Blank other displays", it is connected to the TV via HDMI, but the resolution is 1280x800p and if in monitor options I select HDMI what I get is a black screen.

I was using OpenELEC without this issue, that is why I made a new clean install of it and then update to LibreELEC

The xrandr after the update is:
    Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 32767 x 32767
LVDS1 connected primary (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

VIRTUAL1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

Now I can select HDMI and 1920x1080P, full screen not only the top left corner.

If you need more details please ask. Any help will be wellcome.
    Thank you

  • i was able to workaround the problem on my craptop. using ssh i tryed

xrandr --output LVDS1 --off --output VGA1 --mode 1920x1080 --auto --primary

the screen whent black. no mater what i did after turning off the lvds.

i then tryed restarting x after turning off lvds but this just made lvds turn back on.

I then found that restarting kodi after turning off LVDS worked.

    systemctl restart kodi

so then figured out how to automate this.

make a file called autostart.sh in

    ssh /storage/.config/autostart.sh

    smb /Configfiles/autostart.sh

put the xrandr command in it.

dos not need the systemctl command in it

    Autostart.sh - OpenELEC

now just to figure out why frame rate is so bad now.
