[8.0.2c] LibreELEC 8.0 builds for KIII Pro (S912)

  • Hi there.

Is there a step by step guide on how to install this on a sd card, for use with an Alfawise h96 pro plus?

  • Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

Just one more thing could you give me a link to the correct file that I'll need to download?

From [HOWTO + FAQ] Install community builds on S905/S905X/S912 device

    1. Before you install - choose a device tree

    • S912: You need to choose device tree according to your Ethernet port speed and RAM amount.

From [INDEX] LibreELEC community builds for Amlogic

    8.0.2e (2017-07-04)
Downloads: Index of /s912/8.0.2e/ so download the *.img.gz
Device trees: Index of /s912/device_trees/ so, 1Gbit Ethernet

So, briefly, although it is in the instructions, using rufus Rufus - Create bootable USB drives the easy way

Burn the *.img.gz file to a usb stick

then over writing the dtb file on the root of the usb stick, then rename the dtb file to dtb.img note the different file extension

then, using the pinhole method, as described in the instructions boot the device, you might need to try different usb ports.

Note, with my H96, the remote didn't work, so you may need to read instructions on how to change that, so search the forum for "remote conf"

  • Sorry I'm stuck again, my box is an Alfawise H96 pro+ 3g 32g running nougat 7.1 could you please direct me to the device tree download for my box, if there is one.

    Many thanks.

    Simon.

    from Index of /s912/8.2/device_trees/1Gbit_Ethernet/

    Code
    gxm_q200_3g.dtb

But that is for the latest version.

Please describe exactly what you are doing & what happens when you boot

gxm_q200_3g.dtb must be renamed to dtb.img note the file extension change, then removing original device tree from root of sd card, put dtb.img into the root of the sd card.

    what version are you installing?

  • Hi.

I'm trying to write libreelec to an SD card using the Libreelec usb-sd card creator.

But I keep getting a write error, an error occurred when attempting to handle :error 5

  • do you realise you have posted this in the KIII Pro 912 thread?

not that it makes much difference, if you have downloaded the correct version.

Have you downloaded the correct image?

what have you downloaded? & I don't mean device tree

  • Hi.

I've managed to load just now using the tooth pick method, but libreelec has no WiFi. Is there a way to switch it on as I can't find it?

  • Hi.

    The image I burned was

    LibreELEC-S912.arm-8.0-8.0.2e.img.gz

    was that correct?

    LibreELEC-S912.arm-8.0-8.0.2e.img.gz

There is a newer version with Nougart support 8.1.1 (2017-07-23)

download the *.img.gz from Index of /s912/8.2/8.1.1/

burn this using rufus to a micro sd or usb

then download the device tree from Index of /s912/8.2/device_trees/ choose 1Gbit, then download gxm_q200_3G.dtb

Stick the usb or microsd card into a pc, there will be a dtb file, delete this, then copy the gxm_q200_3G file to the sd card, then rename it to, dtb.img note you must have your pc showing file extensions.

You should get a warning about the file extension changing & might not work.

Insert card or usb, note try all usb ports if using usb.

  • Iv'e seen that on my NUC. the image hasn't been created correctly. I would try another sd card, or a usb stick. If I remember correctly I had trouble with a micro sd card, on my H96 Pro. so I use a sub stick)

Thanks For all your help, but I've given up with this box. It's now crashing every 5 minutes when I'm just trying to add a repo, 4 factory resets later and I'm sending it back to Gearbest. I've got between £50/70 to spend on an alternative box, do you have any recommendations.

    Many thanks.
