S905x SOC temperature

  • So I recently got LE set up on an MXQ pro 4k.

Originally, the temps reported in Kodi and Android were heading north of 90°C. So I popped it open, and was surprised to find the most basic of heatsinks - basically a thin strip of metal glued to the chip.

So I ripped a heatsink off an old graphics card, and stuck it on with some heatsink plaster.

Now the temps hover between 70° and 80° C depending on load.

Still seems very high, although there isn't any problems with stability, and the subjective temperature outside the case doesn't seem too hot.

Anyone else have similar temps, or anything to add?

  • You can order a raspberry pi 3 heatsink kit (mixture of copper and aluminum ) and drill tiny ventilation holes around the box.

  • That is very extreme!
My Tanix TX5 Pro (s905x) never heats above 60 with a small peace of metal strip.
Actually it has the best temp level among all S905x SOC boxes on the market. There's no need to glue anything else.

  • My Nexbox A95x temperature reading is always over 140 and using for more than 6 months, will it be a problem if i continue with this temperature ?
Any possible solution without opening the box ?
