vpn help - where to place - application or router?

    hi - had to be away for 4 months from colorado and when i came back, new issue with The Crew and real-debrid . . . seems to be blocked from isp? so no content . . . then if i strip off real-debrid, many 'free' links but nothing working. looked into a vpn but hard to implement to me . . . if i place it at the os level (or add-on) there is this 3 year old project and repo and (to me) and non conventional way to install (vs. traditional add-on installation). if you go to the router, it seems that you have to flash it with an open source (dd-wrt) firmware to configure the vpn and seems involved . . .any recommendations welcome :)
