Wifi link "fails"

  • Libreelec 12.2.1 on a Pi4

The Wifi link will randomly "fail". I put "fail" in quotes as Libreelec addon shows the link connected and fine yet no other machines on the network can access it ... ssh, http, smb, ping ..... etc..

The router shows the connection as fine also when in this state.

Sometimes I can disconnect and reconnect the link and all is fine again.

Other times when I disconnect and reconnect it will ask for the WiFi passphrase. I enter the passphrase and it asks again. If I try to connect to my alternate network it will ask for the passphrase and then ask for it again.

Question is .... what should I look at and where to start?

    Cheers, Duncan

  • Start with logs, Duncan - because blind guessing is for amateurs, and you've got a Pi that's playing hard to get.

Enable debug logging in Kodi: Settings > LibreELEC > System > Logging > Toggle it on, then reboot and reproduce the WiFi flop.

SSH in (root/libreelec) and run journalctl -u connman for network manager moans - look for DHCP fails, disconnections, or beacon losses.

Peek at dmesg | grep brcmfmac for WiFi driver drama; signal issues or power-saving quirks often lurk there.

If it's the passphrase loop, check signal strength in Connections settings - weak sauce triggers that nonsense.

Router side: Log in, tweak channels to 1,6,11, and reboot it - interference is a sneaky bastard.

Disable WiFi power save: SSH echo "options brcmfmac power_save=0" > /storage/.config/modprobe.d/disable-wifi-powersave.conf and reboot.

Bump 'Wait for Network' to 30-60s in Services to give it breathing room.

If logs scream hardware, ditch onboard WiFi for a USB dongle - Pi's antenna is about as reliable as a chocolate teapot.

Forums with your logs if stuck; now go fix it before your Pi ghosts you permanently.
