[RPI5] Fresh install issues

  • Hello,

I do need some support. After some issues with a movie on my old setup (RPI3 with Kodi 18) I decided to upgrade my two existing setups (Onother was an Odroid C2, lol)

I had two RPI4 and one of them not in use, so I just used the LE USB creator and it worked out of the box. Initial setup was with a mikro-HDMI adapter to a HDMI-to-DVI cable on my monitor setup, then it went to my FHD TV. So far so good.

Now, I tried to install a fresh RPI5 but it stucks. Seems anything with graphics is wrong.

Initial SD Card setup works fine and looks great (tried Monitor, 4k TV and FHD TV)

Sometimes it stucks during boot. Showing just in corner the message "LibreELEC (official) 12.0.1"

Sometimes it starts "successfully" loading the initial Startup assistent from Kodi, but here is almost everytime the end. It does not show right. I can see that cursor is moving, and I can skip this menue by clicking several times enter, but even after a reboot it is showing just a few frames, no text...se pictures below.

    Hardware setup:
Fresh new RPI5 with 8GB ram + active cooling

    Original 27W power supply

    Ethernet connection

16GB sandisk (tried 32GB verbatim as well, both would work on RPI 4)

And I have a second RPI without active cooling, same behaviour.

    Any ideas?

  • It doesn't look that you have got the 8GiB version, looks more like the hardware revision 2712D0 (released with the 2GiB version). Please try a recent nightly build, which includes the needed Mesa driver patches.

    Already discussed here:

  • Current LE12 or L13 nightlies will solve the issue (100% this is the newer chip needing newer mesa). LE 12.0.2 will be along soon-ish to roll up this issue.

  • Hey, yes, the last nightly works.
    Thank you for the hint.
An no, it is a 8GB Raspberry.

But yes, looks like the MCU code is similar what you wrote:

You are the first to confirm my suspicion from the linked thread that equipment variants other than the 2GiB version with this new chip version are in the wild. Nice to know.
