[RPI5] Livestreams playing via simple iptv pvr cuts out

  • I believe this is related to the Adaptive Inputstream, but watching IPTV on RPi5 LE latest from the nightly builds cuts out since a few weeks.

Every time, the error/warning is timeout waiting for buffer. This only happens on IPTV, other streaming services (Netflix, YouTube, etc.) work, as well as the same iptv streams when watching on-demand instead of live tv.

Seems to only happen on my Pi5, the Pi4, which is also on the latest nightly, doesn't have this problem (so far)

  • If the IPTV service is the typical pirate variety that users show up with and try to hide by only sharing little log snippets due to forum rules; a) you're probably getting a service level appropriate to what you pay for, b) we don't care. If it's one of the rare occasions where this is a real legitimate IPTV service; please share a full debug log.

  • Sorry, yes, I've not yet gotten a full log, as I've simply not watched TV yet out of frustration (and it was a bit late my time).

The service is TVNZ Live, which is New Zealand's (where I am located) public TV service. Using Matt Huisman's TVNZ add-on.

The log above is the standard log, after a clean reboot, from starting to play to when it cut out.

I'll get a full log soon, once I'm able to take control of the TV again :D

  • ^ that's the current whitelist decision tree outcome. Kodi will handle scaling 720p content to 2160p without trouble but I'd expect playing 25fps content at 30fps to result in visible glitches. It also looks like you have a 4K desktop resolution?

This article contains general advice for better GUI and playback experience: https://wiki.libreelec.tv/configuration/4k-hdr

  • That is odd then that it's happily playing other streams at 4k, but also, I never made/set a whitelist, and the GUI resolution is at 1080.

It doesn't explain a complete "I Quit Playback" though. It's not stuttering or glitchy, it's cutting out entirely. The stream just stops and we get taken back to the home screen, specifically for the NZ Freeview channels.

Other channels, like Rush or Bravo (which are on freeview as well, but just not publicly owned), play just fine and don't cut out. Same for Netflix and Neon (Although Neon doesn't serve above 1080)

  • 4K content comes in a wide variety of different refresh rates and codecs; in fact one of the odd things in your log is no info on the codec of the source media. FFmpeg is instructing that codec id=xx is being used but there's nothing to indicate what that is, and I normally see something more explicit; though with local file or normal internet streams. I'm wondering if that's being obscured by inputstream.adaptive?

Can you repeat with FFMpeg component logging enabled in Kodi settings (System > Logging .. IIRC). Also make whitelist changes as those should generally improve playback over a wide range of media. Does it influence the outcome?

  • When I disable inputstream adaptive, the playback doesn't cut out, which is why I said I believe it's related to that.

I'll get a FFMPeg log back probably tonight or tomorrow (NZ Standard Time)
