HEVC Decode on Pine A64+

    Hello,

    i have this board and like it very much; stable and good audio.

    using it for test with Libreelec,

    but it struggle with HEVC video playback.

    Would the newer Pine A64+LTS be better for this task?

    according to specsheet, the SOC should be capable of HEVC Decode.

    SoC is the same, so it will function the same. A64 does support HEVC HW decoding and it works just fine. However, it supports only 8-bit depth. If you have 10-bit depth (10-bit or HDR in file name), it will fall back to software decoding and CPU is just too weak for that.

    thank you for the good answer,ùì have found out myself in meantime that this is the case. finally the rock64 seems stable enough with kodi20 libreelec so i can use that board for 10bit (used to crash very often, latest release seem stable; maybe i just got a bit wanky unit).

    will save some money then for a later board like quartz64 or odroid n2+ the likes.
